The Town Manager said; The Selectmen met, a motion was made, seconded and that they unanimously voted to ban dogs from the park. The Town Manager said he spoke on my behalf. Bottom line is that I was slam-dunked. They precluded me from participating in the democratic process as if I did not exist. That got me the angriest. I cannot have a voice in my local government where I pay taxes??? Two weeks later, I attended the Selectman Meeting. Prior to going, I asked where it was being held. I was told that it was on the second floor and there was no elevator. No handicapped accessibility. I told the Town Manager that I would probably have difficulty with the stairs and that he would need to move the meeting to a place that was handicap accessible. They were using the upstairs meeting room because it was big enough to accommodate the anticipated turnout because it was an election night. When I got there they were still going to have the meeting upstairs. The Town Manager called the meeting to order in his office with just me and the Selectmen. Now I know how a Chuwawa (Don't know the spelling) feels walking into a room full of Rottweilers. The office was not big enough to accommodate the turnout thereby keeping people out of the loop. The meeting was cut short and put on the June 28th agenda for the Selectmen Meeting. They were all apprised of my status as a PWD and given the card depicting my rights and my dogs’ rights. I also gave them a pamphlet published by the USDOJ on what is expected and mandated for small towns to adhere to in order to be in compliance with the ADA. It WAS established at that meeting that there never was any dog feces. So, then they switched the cause to "intimidation factor". How so, if my dogs never interact with anyone in the park? They had no answer. One week later, while I am in the park with Blitz, a Selectman comes up to me and demands that I leave the field. I decline and tell him not to approach me again or I will have him arrested for harassment. He calls the Sheriff. The Sheriff issues me a summons for criminal trespass and demands that I leave the park.. I told the Sheriff that it was public space and I had a Constitutional and Civil Right top be there and I am exercising my civil rights as a PWD with a service dog. He told me if I returned, I would be arrested. I told him to be at the park the following day at 3:00 PM and bring a dog if he liked.............I WOULD BE THERE EXERCISING MY CIVIL RIGHTS!
