On or about May 12th 2007, I was just leaving the Public Recreation Field when I was approached by a man who identified himself as the Recreational Officer. He told me that I would have to find another place to go with my dogs. I asked him why, I pay taxes in this town to mow the fields. He stated that; "A few parents had expressed concern that their children MAY step in dog feces." Not that they had, that they MAY! I told him that I was not going to leave. I live right next door to the park. Why should I have to alter my lifestyle to accommodate other peoples irrational fears? A few days later signs were put up banning dogs. With that, I went home and got my dogs and came back to the field. When I entered the field, I discovered that someone had vandalized my meter hurdle and wrote on it ; "NO DOGS. STAY OFF OUR FIELD. I was contemplating calling the police and filing a police report when the Sheriff pulls into the park on his rounds. I told him what had occurred and showed him the vandalism. HE said I should speak with the Town Manager I agreed with him but expressed that this was a crime against me and my dogs and what would be next? Would someone throw rocks at me and my dogs or poison them by throwing anti-freeze tainted meat into my yard as was done last year in the next town over killing 9 dogs. That culprit is still out there and no efforts are being made to investigate those deaths by the Sheriff's Department. My lifestyle has had to change dramatically. I have to go out in the morning and check my property before I let my dogs out. At night, when a car slow up in front of my house, then takes off, my stomach does a flip and I have to check to see if there is any poison out front. I am now living a life of fear and intimidation. It gets allot worse. I spoke with the Town Manager and gave him a presentation on me and my dogs and what I do with them. I gave him a card that depicts my rights as a PWD..........Person With Disabilities that has an 800 number for the US Department Of Justice that deals with the ADA. He said he was OK with what I presented and that I should show up at the Town Selectmen Meeting the following day to address them. I told him it may not be feasible for me to attend being that I have a bitch that's temperature had dropped indicating that she was going to have pups within 24 hours. The Town Manager said that it was not a problem, there was another Selectman Meeting in 2 weeks on June 12th and the matter could be tabled until then when I could attend. The next morning after I delivered 6 pups, I called The Town Manager to see what the Selectmen said if anything.

One question I would ask is..do you pick up after your dog? If you do not, and I am not saying you do not which is why I asked, then of course anyone would have a legitimate concern. When I go anywhere with my dogs I always stuff bags in my pockets. It's just a way of life when you have dogs. Some people do not clean up after their dogs and it makes it hard on the rest of us. If I went to a park or playground and found doggie doo all over I would be upset. Are there other dog owners that go to this park that do not clean up after their dogs ruining it for others?

It's not uncommon for parks to have signs posted NO DOGS ALLOWED. I never realized just how many non animal lovers there were in this world and they can make life difficult for the rest of us that do love our dogs. The more noise you make in the community the more at risk you may put your dogs because it is very possible that someone may get upset enough with you that they may set your dogs up to get poisoned. I understand it may be an inconvenience to go elsewhere; and I'm not saying that it's right you should have to but if it were me I think I would rather go elsewhere and know my dog was safe than have to worry every time I took the dog where he wasn't wanted fearing he'll get sick or be killed. It could be that it's someone else that's not picking up after their dog and they think it's you??? OR it could also be that the people walking their little poodles aren't too happy seeing a big GSD in their path??? A lot of people get weird about big dogs. Hell my own neighbors get an odd expression on their face just when I walk my dog down the road on a leash and THEIR dog comes running off their porch towards us...they look at me like I did something wrong despite the fact that my dog isn't showing the aggression, but because he is a GSD they look at him differently regardless if he's under control and I'm acting responsibly. This is why I like dogs better than people. lol Dogs have more sense!
