Hello all,
If you had a puppy buyer that you knew did not have adequate fencing to contain the puppy/dog you are selling and thought the buyer might tie out the dog, would you sell them the puppy/dog? What if the buyer openly says they are going to tie out the dog? What are your ideas on this?

I am firmly against tie outs and would never sell a dog willingly to someone who would admit to using one. They have so much potential to be physically, mentally, and emotionally damaging.

I'm sorry.....but personally;...I could not sell them the puppy.
We had a family want a puppy from us...they only had fencing around "part" of the home,....we suggested they purchase a "dog run" so the puppy can be "safe" and the entire family could "play" in the yard.....they did.

Absolutely I would not.....not ever....sell a puppy to anyone so ill prepared to have a dog. No question about it.

I would not sell them a puppy. Not only because they would tie it out, but because they think it is okay, if they state they would. If they did not have enough sense to know to lie when asked a question about something like tieing out, then what else are they stupid about? Fresh water?

Absolutely not! In fact, anyone who ties out their dog, according to my contract, if I find out, I have the authority to repossess the puppy! There is absolutely NO reason to tie out an animal because you are a) too cheap to fence, and/or b) not prepared to own a dog.
How exactly would this person keep other animals OUT of the yard? (animals that may harm or kill your dog!)
What happens when it's a FEMALE and the dog goes in heat, and every dog loose within miles comes looking for her and breeds her???
This is a nightmare situation. If you don't have a fence to keep YOUR animals IN and other animals OUT, you are inviting disaster.
I have, however, sold a puppy to people who did not have a fence who planned to keep the dog indoors with them and lived on over 300 acres. They received a male, and he was basically their child (had his own bedroom in the house, went everywhere they did, and was outside and never left unsupervised.
If someone told me they were going to tie them out, I would try to explain why that is a bad idea, and not sell them a puppy.

nope, wouldn't sell a pup if I knew they planned on tying him at ALL, or leaving him in the kennel 24/7 (not planning on having him in the house at all). Just me - I want my pups to be part of the family, whether they are in working homes or not.

I try not to be rude, but,
ARE YOU NUTS?
FOR ALL OF THE REASONS EVERYONE IS GOING TO IMPLODE ON YOU.

Nope, especially after we have all followed the Mattia threads. A well trained and behaved adult dog may do fine on a tie out. I use them when I camp or hike sometimes without a problem. However pups thrash and don't get the concept of a leash at first. I think it would be a really frightening experience to tie out a pup and walk away. Waaaaay too much possiblity for things to go wrong. Mimum they need a crate and a fenced yard, better yet a kennel for when the owners are at work or out of town.
