in this hypothetical situation, what would you do.
a dog that came directly from one of your breedings eventually had a litter of puppies. one of the puppies started doing really well. titles, medical alert, etc.. this person tried to contact you and rave about what a great dog, and to thank you. would you want to know information about a dog who came from your stock?? just curoious. remember, hypothetical.

Of course. Why would you not want to know?

Of course I would want to know. I hope to follow the (hopefully) successful careers of any pups we have born here. We keep in touch with the breeders of all the dogs we bought as puppies and now consider them friends, even the ones we never met from Germany. They even get to hear all the training stories and we like to hear how the litter mates are doing too. Pictures get sent back and forth so we can see how all are progressing.

Of course I'd want to know...if my dog took part in this exceptional product I'd equally want the bragging rights.lol My dog was used twice as a stud dog and in both litters I wanted to know each and every person those pups went to. I contacted all the owners, gave them my information so they could contact me at any time and I encouraged them to keep in touch to let me know how the pups were all doing, how their training was coming along ect. Several of the owners contacted me before I had an opportunity to send them an email; this showed me they were interested about having access to not only the bitch's owners but also the sire in the event they needed assistance or just wanted to send their thanks for giving them such a wonderful companion. I even send periodic updates to the people who sent me my dog; they love to hear how well he's doing and look forward to pictures and videos I send out. I think satisfied people that provide excellent homes to a dog you sold them is far more rewarding than the money you were paid. I can't tell you how many times I bought a dog and never heard from the breeder not one time to ask me how the pup was coming along or even if I still owned their dog. That tells me one thing...it was all about making a sale and then who cares.

I would hope I would be the first person they call.

Yes I want to know and I want pictures of my pups from puppyhood to adult and I have a good list of great customers that keep in touch with me and always let me know what the pups are doing..... .

it would not be the pup that you directly bred, but one of that pup's pups.
would you as a breed er make yourself available to questions about their pups grandparents?
by EchoMeadows on 27 June 2007 - 07:06
Absolutely !! In a heartbeat.

Melba,
Absolutely!
Add to that, that breeders should make themselves available to answer questions about dogs/pups they never had anything at all to do with! Afterall, if everyone did this, and helped others out, don't you think that would help get people more knowledgeable about the breed, and thereby help the breed out as a whole? :)
