Anybody current on which airlines take pets as excess baggage, domestic and/or international?

I am thinking of taking Carol to Florida with me for a day or two.

Yes, I know its hot, but a non-stop flight I would take a chance on. Carol hosed down on his way into the box. "cool pad" in bottom of crate, ice in dish, non-stop flight, etc. He is an experienced traveler. I'd buy him a seat, but I am fairly certain someone would figure out he is a dog when we boarded the aircraft.

BTW: I have NO scruples in this incidence. I would PAY to borrow a handicapped dog harness and some papers I could forge.

Ha ha  ha.

Hey Shelley! When I lived in Hawaii I had a neighbor who smuggled her dog in by putting it under her shirt & pretending she was pregnant!!! I'm thinking T would make you look like you were just about ripe! Yikes! jackie

Delta, Frontier, Continental, United (but United will not accept a Cert of Acclimation).  Even with, above a certain temp & dog is grounded, so it's a little dicey in warmer weather.   When you make your reservation, most of the reservations clerks don't know to verify whether or not the crate will fit in the cargo hold, so you need to be sure & ask them to make sure.   If you are using a 500 crate,  you will need the large aircraft   (I think all 700 series can,  & of course,  airbuses).  Last bit, just as a reminder, fly the dog early AM or red eye (cooler).

My pup came from Holland on KLM...and Continental is supposed to have one of the best transports for pets...but they also have a price that goes with it.  Lufthansa also transports...past that I dont really know anything about domestic.  I was really happy with KLM thought.

Delta has an embargo on dogs as carry on from April 15 - Sept 15.... you can however ship your dog cargo and they will take him on the same plane.. yup, costs more.....

Shelly,

I take my service dog on airlines a lot. I have never been asked for any paperwork other than she has had her rabies vaccination. You are protected under the disabilities act.

I have had airlines tell me all flights are full when they found out I was being accompanied by a SD though. So I book my flight and pay for it then several days before my flight I call back to inform them I'll be traveling with my service dog.

I really need my service dog though but I see people all the time taking their pets out as a SD and claiming they need the dog as they have PTSD which is legal.

Birdy...
