Starting in July Air Canada is banning all pets from flying.

Hey is that "Air Canada"? I wanna talk to the Pilot!

Nina, cute pic! Does your GSD bark at vapour trails? My Tasha used to do that all the time!

Yes, dog owners in Canada are NOT happy with Air Canada right now!

Westjet still fly our dogs. They are a better airline anyway and charge $50.00 for any size dog one way with you. Air Canada still flies dogs only cargo at abought  six times the cost. This is just a money grab and nothing more. Dog owners are getting hit every which way  these days.

Airline policies are changing here in Australia as well.

We used to be able to book our dogs on flights as excess baggage (if we were flying as well) for a very minimal cost.

Now all domestic airlines are only taking dogs at full cargo rate, and some have lessened the amount of dogs per flight as well.

In addition, they have decided to only allow the use of "airline approved' crates.

This not only adds GREATLY to the cost of flying dogs, but also makes it much harder to get large numbers of animals interstate to attend shows. Because of our geography, most owners in each state will fly out of the same airport to attend an interstate show. Because of the limitations on the number of dogs allowed per flight, it is sometimes not possible to get everyone and their dogs on suitable flights.

And for anyone that has been using their perfectly safe and adequate crates to fly their dogs in the past, they must now replace their crate with the "airline "approved" type, or rent one from the pet cargo company each time they fly.

Seems that the airlines are really not interested in carrying animals. It really stinks, as the distances to be travelled for shows, matings, etc. are just too far to drive sometimes.

Sunsilver, no he doesn't bark at vapor trails. He is pretty well behaved, but my previous one barked at everything, when I walked him around the neighborhood he even barked at trash bags. Slightly embarrassing.

Realcold, so your from Canada, hence the name realcold! Glad to hear there are additional airlines who will still transport pets.
