Hello Everyone,

If you were a person looking to learn about different types of lines, working/verse showlines, pedigree's, genetics, ect. Where would you all start. I live in a rural area, Oregon Coast and would like to know which books are the best or if there is material on-line.

Do you have any recommendations?

Thank you in advance

Dorathey

I learned most, if not all, of my GSD knowledge online.

www.justshepherds.com/thegermanshepherdpages.htm - pretty good site, IMO.

I've also looked at www.schaferhund.com/, www.germanshepherds.com/, and Leerburg's forum: www.leerburg.com/forums/ubbthreads.php.

I also learned more about GSDs from Pedigree Database and it's forums.

I do have 1 major book: German Shepherds for Dummies  but it's just a general book GSD, and doesn't go into depth about the different lines or genetics.

Hope that helps, ~Lauren

Best advice for learning about shepherds...volunteer to do fostering for rescue GSDs.  It's a great way to learn about bloodlines from the ground up.  Also go to as many dog events, training, seminars...whatever.  Internet and books don't replace hands on learning.

Welcome to the world of GSDs!
