I use Avon Skin So Soft mixed half and half with water and put it in a spray bottle.  It also leaves their coats shiny and they smell wonderful.

robert,  I have heard,  though I don't use garlic for this I use garlic as a blood builder.  But I have heard that feeding Garlic is "supposed" to be a natural repellent,  I have yet to see a difference... :-)   but might be worth speaking to a vet about.

There is one thing we have tried and have seen some Flea repellent advantages...  It is Citrus oils,  lightly applied to the coat rubbing it back and forth apply VERY light,  meaning a drop in your palm rub palms together and then rub your dog basically...  Works really well and they smell great, and the coats look awesome receiving some beneficial oils.  My guess is since the Fleas and Flies don't like it,  maybe skeeters won't eigther.

Have to try the citrus oil.   I also use garlic and it doesn't seem to help with mosquitos

We use a product called natrapell, its made from citronella, I put it onto my hands and wipe it over the top of the dogs head, ears, down the back and under the belly. Its very mild and does not have to be washed off. It readily available at most large stores in the bug spray isle.

Garlic should not be given to dogs. It can cause a hemolytic anemia.

According to an article from the Whole Dog Journal, written by a vet, garlic is perfectly safe if given in the quantities if 1 clove per 20 pounds.  I have given it to my dogs for years with no problems and tremendous benfits.  No flea problems at all and I live in SC where roving gangs of fleas will steal your cars and run off with your women.

congo that is funny!

I knew a lady in WV that used garlic on her Lab and swore it would ward off the ticks...

I read that Neem Oil is a natural bug repellent.
