Have any of you had GSD's with corneal dystrophy and did is subside on its own?
Do any of you CERF your dogs? Do you follow up with an annual re-cert? I don't see a lot of GSD's advertised wtih CERF numbers. Not a problem in the breed?

My husband and daughter both have corneal dystrophy. If I can be of any help let me know. I am sure it manifests itself the same way in dogs. If so, no it will not subside. Husband had a corneal transplant that is now showing signs of rejection.

Sorry to hear about your husband and daughter.
Blitz's seems to have subsided. It was there one day - both eyes - and gone the next. Fred Lanting told me that would probably happen and that it is not a big deal in this breed. In some breeds it can cause some vision problems and considered genetic and dogs with it will not get a CERF number. I think the a GSD with corneal dystrophy is eligible for certification, but I'm not sure. The GSD seems relatively free of eye problems from what I can gather.

I had a bitch who had her cornea punctured by a pointed twig while playing DIVE into the tall grasses... we struggled hard to keep her calm until we were able to remove it... It was fine for sometime but the white plaque (like a white dot ) did not recover or regenerate... She keeps on having teary eyes up to now... I just try my best to keep her eyes clean because some antibiotics can make it worst and the corneal dystropathy larger in extent... With age, it like she just getting old.... with eyes no so good anymore...
