I just got a telephone message from an operator leaving a message for someone wanting to know if I still had any puppies left. They did not leave a phone number to return a call to,only e mail and a persons name. This is some king of scam, isn't it?

Not necessarily. Haven't you ever forgotten/neglected to leave an effective message on someone's voice mail? Maybe they will realize it and call back when after they've had their morning coffee and cleared the cobb webs out of their brain.

I don't think you have enough info yet to tell for sure if it's a scam.  I use email all the time, many times instead of voicemail.  Could just be personal preference.

The thing that seemed odd was the operator left the message to me for a person stating exactly what she was supposed to say and that was the whole message. Operator # such and such leaving a message from ..name of person..please contact at..e mail adress..if you still have any puppies for sale. The person wanting puppies didn't leave the message. He/she had an operator do it for them.

It could have been a long-distance operator assisted person to person call.

It could be the person calling doesn't speak English, although I don't know if the operator would be allowed to translate for them

It could be the caller was Deaf, and using the telephone relay service for the Deaf.

My advice? Be cautious, but don't automatically assume it's a scam.

That is strange. I don't think I would email them. If they are interested enough they will keep trying to contact you.

Most likely. Did it come from a transfer operator? I got a call like that the other day. If they offer to send a cashiers' check through a "shipping agent", that you are to cash, keep the amount you are asking for the puppy and give the difference to the "shipping agent", then yes, it's a scam. The cashiers' check will be a bad check. DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THAT PERSON! I told them I would not do business with them and that I hope they get busted soon.

I sent a generic e mail response asking what they are looking for. This smells like it's going to go down the cashier's check road. This just doesn't seem right so far. I don't know if it was a transfer operator but it was an operator or someone who claimed to be an operator, who gave their id. from a toll free number and left the message. That was it. How would I know if it was a transfer operator?

I had the same thing a month ago.  First I thought it was possibly a deaf or mute person.  When I called them out they stopped e-mailing me.

I've gotten three or four more just like yours since.  Always the same wording.  The first guy told me he was going to send my money and his transporters.  I was to cash it immediately and pay the transporter by western union.  I e-mailed him and called him out and no more from Ruben.
