Some dogs are more high strung than others, I have a male pup like that, (1 yr.)
In the Shelter if we get something in that is terribly thin and needs weight, we Add RiceBran and a powdered milk formula to the mix of feed, It works really well, Rice Bran is 30% fat content and it does not make the stools runny, for an adult large dog in the shelter I'll start them on 1/4 cup of rice bran work them up to 1 cup a day. once the weight is on it typically stays with just a balanced diet. Maybe that will help your dog too, But I would definately consult with your own vet first... Good Luck.

How much are you feeding him? Do you have any pictures? Often times, people think ideal weight is under weight. Can you see his ribs or just feel them? At two years old he still has some maturing/filling out to do, if your vet does not seem concerned with his weight I would not worry too much.

I experienced the same thing with one of my males at that age. He started gaining weight when I switched him to a raw diet and has kept it on ever since. He just turned 8 yrs. old. If you don't want to do raw, try using a "pro-biotic" formula to add to the food. There are many out there. Also salmon oil and other fatty acids should help some too.
Good luck!

I have a male who was very thin all his life. I put my dogs on Diamond Naturals chicken and rice and he has deffinatly filled out. At 7 yrs old he finally doesn't look starved. This is a dog that a since day one with me was fed all he wanted (free fed). Now I need to actually cut back as he gained too much. Also a plus it's $20 a 40lb bag.

The problem more than likely is the food you are feeding him. As dic said a raw or BARF diet is the best way to go. I use a modified Raw diet with Urban Wolf.. Or if you want to stay with kibble try Orijen. Another way to go is use Canine Complete www.thewholisticpet.com that will add all the nutrients that are missing from your dogs diet with the current kibble you are using. Canine Complete will also increase your dogs appetiete. Another thing to add is goats milk yogurt dogs love it.
Best of luck with your dog.

Feed the amount listed on the bag for the weight you think he should be.
Then use (what the show people do) (and I've used it myself and works great), macaroni & cheese. A box at Wal-mart costs .33, One box is 3 servings. So he gets a third with every meal mixed in. He'll love it. And in a week you'll start to see a difference.

vmom, you say. " hes been to vet hes healthy, no worms no nothing, vet seems to think its his age and hes very active, but he has a big head and no body, it does not seem to effect him, but it makes my worry." What's your problem? Why do you want a fat dog? He will gain weight as he gets older, don't push him into being fat!!
