We occassionally take a shot at the G.S.D.C.A. for seemingly following lockstep with the A.K.C. when it comes to our favourite dog, but occassionally one sees a surprise. Check out the cover of the June 2007 edtion; and who's face do you see? 2xVA Jim vom Fiemereck SchH3 Kkl1 Lbz., Canadian Select, American Champion, ROM. What a nice dog who has proven himself in multiple venues.
When I received the magazine I was surprised to see who was on the cover. I regret there was not a detailed story of Jim's life and career inside, but it was still nice to see his picture. While I realize that a magazine cover photo alone does not reflect the inner workings of an organization, perhaps there is hope yet for the show side of the G.S.D.C.A.

HI Bob-O,
Thanks for the information. I don't belong to the club anymore, so didn't see Jim's cover photo. I know his owner and have seen Jim a few times and he is a really nice dog both in body and spirit. He must be, around 12 or 13 now ( assuming he is still alive?). Jim has produced some very nice AKC champions too. His owner, Dan Smith, used to go to the Sieger evey year, he still may, I haven't talked to him for a few years. Anyway, he saw Jim there as a youngster and bought him. I believe he may be the first import in many years to earn his breeding ROM - is that what they GSDCA calls that title?
I should re-join I think. I liked the stand the Board took against Andrew Hunte and every time I've contacted one of the Presidents about campgrounds and breed-specific bans, he has always responded . One passed the story on to the membership and many of them complained to one campground in particular. They later lifted their breed ban. There is strength in numbers.

Wait a minute... this is a German bred LONG HAIRED GSD...and he's got not only his ROM, (I assume that's the AKC ROM?) but also an American championship, i.e., an AKC championship?? Is that possible?? Please tell me I'm imagining this!
{Falls down in total shock...)

Where do you get the magazine?

Yello Rose, my scanner is inoperable at this time. The photo is a face shot and is not on the G.S.D.C.A.'s website. The magazine is sent to all members of the G.S.D.C.A. and to my knowledge is not available through other venues. I could easily be wrong here.
Jim has much grey on his muzzle and I presume the photograph is quite recent. Blitzen, I am not sure that he is still alive either, as he won the North American VA-2 seat in 1999 and would be quite old now. It is just very nice to see a GSD of the "German" persuasion on the cover of the German Shepherd Dog Review.
