Well, dogs don't go thru menopause like humans, but they lose their fertility a little, as they age. Many breeders retire their females between 5 & 8 years old.

your best alternative is if you want to not be concerned about her chances of being bred, is to have her spayed after a certain age whenever you decide to retire her. This also has some benefits to her as she ages, such as a slight decrease in uterine and mammary cancers.
