Today , Natalie Jay, a Tyler Policewoman, was attacked answering a call at a home in Noonday., a sub division of Tyler...I have not read it in the paper , yet, but I guess the site tomorrow will be www.tylernewspaper.com THey showed her arm and she took two huge bites with holes the size of nickels....and she shot one of them and the owner , who was asleep in house, awoke , and co-operated and He put pit bulls in the back of his pickup and she, the officer and the owner took immediately to be tested for rabies.....watch for update.....opinions?

Many drug dealers and other people who are into illegal activities keep vicious dogs to discourage visitors. That's wny some LEO's are so trigger-happy when it comes to large dogs, unfortunately.
We don't know the situation here, no details at all. Was the dog loose in the yard, or did she enter the house? What was the purpose of the call? Too many unknowns for me to offer an opinion, other than if it had been MY arm the dog was chomping on, I would have gone for my gun, too (if I had one.) Holes the size of nickels...OUCH!!

Lucky she was armed. I wonder what breed the other attack was? Responsible people control their dogs, leash law or not.

And she only fired one round, not 7. How about that.

Amen, animules, amen!
Yeah, gee, only ONE bullet. Guess she had much better aim than another cop we know!

What a shame. Unfortunately, once a pitbull latches on, you pretty much have to kill it to get it off. The officer did the only thing she could do. I would have done the same thing in her place.

according to the article, the officer fired one round, into the dogs' HEAD - making him "let go" - then he ran away with the other dog, later caught, taken to the pound and euthanized for rabies testing. So obviously the bullet to the HEAD didn't slow him down much - just made him rethink his gameplan from biting to leaving. Amazing dogs those Pits are.

Well that had to hurt! I cannot in this case blame her at all. But the owner of the dogs is the reason his dogs are now dead. I hate to see dogs roaming free. I would rather see them tied up part of the day if necessary. Two dogs makes a pack and a pack is more dangerous than one dog alone. A bit off topic but I once saw two dogs in my area that were known to never be contained, trying to pull down a young elk. They had the insides of its back legs stipped of skin. I ran them off and I called the Game Warden. I think the owners were given a warning on the dogs. They felt the elk would be alright but a week later I saw crows circling the area and he/she was gone. Almost all gone anyway...

Man I hate to see articles like this. I hate to hear about anybody getting bit by a dog, but here we go again... "another vicious Pit Bull". This is exactly the kind of BS that allows communities to pass BSL.
