OK my 2 gsds decided to help dig up our tree stumps, to help us, but also they have pitch on them too. Any ideas how to get this off there paws, and the side of them? Thanks for all ideas...

Use edible oil, such as butter, margarine or salad oil. This worked just great for getting pine tar out of my hair when the top of the can hit me square in the forehead as I was prying it open!
(I was using the pine tar to tar my cross-country skis.)
Use soap to get the oil out afterwards. Dish soap would probably work best, but make sure you rinse really well, to avoid having upset stomachs if the dogs lick themselves afterwards!

Thanks Sunsilver, my dogs occasionally get this stuff on them too and I have never known how to get it out save for cutting out or wearing out!

Let me know how well it works!
I'm not sure pine tar and pine pitch are exactly the same thing. But I have used this successfully for other sticky stuff too.

Sunsliver,
Well after a couple of soaking and washing, most of the stuff is gone. Butter seem to do the job. I notied that it worked better as long as the stuff was still sticky and not dried.

Yes, any remedy will work better when the pitch is fresh and not dried.
I used margarine on my hair, if I remember correctly.
Bet the dogs liked the taste of the butter...LOL!
