I'm sad to say that this happened in my area.  Talk about a nasty situation and stupid people!

Dang.  That's horrible.  I hope the guy recovers.   Here the perfect reason to have padlocks on gates........

Unfortunately I don't think that this bodes well for these dogs 4 of which were not vaccinated!  And none of which were licensed!

Very ugly situation.

Tsk..tsk..tsk  poor dogs were just doing their JOB protecting their property...could happen to anyone...so keep your gates and kennel doors padlocked...

My opinion is  "Mr. RIVERA should have knocked or at least shouted at the door before opening it... what he got was the welcomming party..."  who knows later the news can also be skrewd as "Gardener attacked by a pack of urban Wolves."

Once again it is the case of a bad owner.

The guys were expected and there to do a job, granted they arrived early. If the yard was large enough it could be he didn't know the dogs were lose in the yard until too late.

Similar happened to me that way once.  Arrived a bit early didn't realize the dogs were out since the yard was huge and they were in the lower portion, no bell on the gate which was unlocked, no beware of dogs signs on the fence, tried going to the front door.  Fortunalty without the same results of emergency care and surgery, I had some bites and torn clothing, six dogs in my case.

I really hope the guy is okay.

That is to bad, I hope the man is OK and not terribly scarred. But I can't help thinking the dogs were just doing what most of us have them for. They can't always tell one intruder from the next... Poor man though, how scary...geez, ick!

I really hope he is OK too, must have been scared witless.  I would never under any circumstances go into someones back yard unannounced.

in my area as i believe in most the law states that certain people have the right to come to your front door. (ie: police, mail carriers, meter readers) so we need to keep our dogs in padlocked areas of the yard so that these people can have a clear path or be out in the yard with the dogs so they can be controled. unfortunatly a protective gsd doesn't know the difference from protecting the back yard from the front. it's all his territory.

Here in Australia, in a country town. A 3 year old left his home went down a few doors. Opened the first gate, walked to the back of the yard to the second paddlocked gate and climed it into where hunting dogs where housed. The child was killed....It was sad but paddlocks will only stop so much. The owner of the 2 dogs had them put down, not because he had to. He was already going to have trouble living with that the rest of his life. The 2 families where friends. It is a sad case for all. The dog owner went to what he thought was safe with his dogs. Who would have ever thought.

I believe every little bit of information can help us be more aware of how to keep all safe and never be left in a situation like these people.

In the short time I have been on this message board I have realised there is more to know and be aware of. Most of it sad but needing to know to be better perpared for the unexpected, man or mother nature.. Ena
