I'm looking for quality, flat leather collars you can add a brass name plate to. I have 2 for the dogs I have had forever but can't find the same or equivalent, for the rest of the dogs here. I have had these for 4+yrs and I am sure they will last the lifetime of the dog. Looking for the same. Must be brown or black leather.

I hope this helps. I am happy with everything I have ordered and have special ordered items too.

well I see one collar that could fit the bill but by the color it looks like the kind that will crack easily with water and the elements. The price also indicates it is cheap. I see tons of illaberate studded collars everywhere I go like the website but not many plain, well made 1" collars. The ones I bought were not hard or stiff but supple and a nice medium dark color. I have owned the rawhide stuff in horse items and it sucks. The reins break after a couple years wear and tear.

We've gotten quite a few leather leashes from here. Great stuff.

Thank you animules the biothane gripper looks interesting. I have a big boy I have a hard time holding onto. Looks like they also are easy to take care of and last forever.

I really like the look of the seriousdogsupply.com collars made of bridle leather. Thanks for the link! One thing 4pack, I don't know if the biothane leashes are similar to the ramtech leather alternative leads (Ray Allen), but if so, I found the tracking line to be unusable because when it was wet it got really slippery.

This is where I get all of my collars and leashes from. She is excellent, and VERY fast! I call her or email her and let her know if I want braided, or flat and what color and she makes it that day or night, and sends it out the very next day! Very fast delivery, and excellent product.

I use the biothane lines in all weather. Once you get used to them slippery is not a problem. They hold up to all weather including extremely cold. I like the feel as it's close to leather.

Leather needs to be oiled with neat's foot oil or something similar to keep it supple. Brand new leather used for horse items has no natural oil left in it, and must be oiled before use, or it will crack right away. (Someone was custom making me some stirrup leathers, and we put them on the saddle, just to see where the holes needed to go. Even that was enough to crack them.)
I have a plain leather collar I bought for my first GS back in 1987. It's spent a few of those years just hanging gathering dust, as I've sometimes used other collars on my dogs (e.g. nylon with reflective strips for safety). But, it's still got a lot of wear left in it. Usually the oil from the dog's skin is enough to keep it supple, but if it hasn't been used for awhile, I'll give it a neatsfoot treatment before I put it on the dog. I think I got it at a Pet Valu store in Scarborough, Ontario. But it's hard to find collars like that now.
