I recently purchased a SchH 1 male, and let me tell you, I regret it. From day one I have had problems with this dog, and I know I should have probably purchased a better titled dog. My SchH3 blows this one out of the water. My SchH 1 male has been growling at my family over little things, and when you fuss him, he comes at us.

How old is this dog compared to your Schh3 dog?

by moose88 on 07 June 2007 - 11:06

my SchH 1 is 2.5 years old, and my SchH3 is 9

Could it  be that the 2.5 year old needs more work. He is still very young. The temperment may be harder on the 2.5 year old and he needs a firmer hand. Dont let him get away with anything! Why did the original owner sell him?

Moose who did you buy him from? Sounds like a dog with bad character and temperament.

vom brunhaus, can you really tell that with the small amount of information supplied?

"My SchH 1 male has been growling at my family over little things, and when you fuss him, he comes at us."

Janette may be closer to the truth, but still she does not have enough info for that judgement.

First off, how long have you had the dog and did you see it work before you bought it? How many times? What are the 'little things' that make this dog react and what are those reactions? Is it just growling?

Also, when you buy a mature male it takes a while for them to accept you as their new leader.  They are pretty set in their ways.  You are comparing a 2.5 year old to a 9 year old or course there are huge differences.  He's testing to determine his place in this new pack.

Yeah Spook thats my first read "growling over little things" / not big things.

You must be the new dog whisperer; you need a series on HBO. Most people would seek more info before telling a frustrated owner something like that, but with your expertise it probably wasn't necessary.
