I have had eczema since the day I was born. I have been lucky that when my body chemistry changes every 7 years, that I have periods where it lies dormant. I have also had a couple of dogs over the years that also have it. There are a couple different kinds of eczema, environmental and food related. I, unfortunately have both, as did the two dogs I had with it. However, each dog had different allergens in regard to food, but the enviromental allergens were the same for them. Bag balm works, to some degree. This usually just keeps it moist so it doesn't itch, as much. When eczema is dry, it hurts. I found, for both me and the two dogs I had, that Gold Bond powder worked very well. If only applied when the irritated area is dry. If applied wet, it stings like crazy. Moisture usually causes more harm than good where eczema is concerned, at least in humans.. Steroids work well short term, while you figure out what the allergens are. If the dog doesn't lick a lot, SARNA lotion is really really good.

An old remedy is Comfer, you grow the plant. Put the leaves through a blender and then mix it with water and put it all over the dog. I have friends years ago that made a bath of it for their 2 shepherds. The dogs on their own would get in the bath that have the mix in it. They had the bath in the yard for the dog and would renew it each day. These dogs lived a long and happy life. Hope this helps..
