I wrote a very long message but for some reason it didn't post. I will make this a little shorter.
I just yesterday bought a GSD puppy from an ad in the paper, the dog is in very bad shape and I knew better than to buy the dog but he was so I thought about to be homeless and the lady selling him was moving and could not take the dog, he is she said "13 weeks old, male, all shots and wormed, crate, dog feeder, AKC registered, blah blah blah... I bought it hook, line and sinker!! She met me and my husband yesterday morning to pick up the puppy. She was dirty woman with a man in the car that didn't speak or make eye contact, her poor children filthy and the smell coming from the car was horible, she opened the back seat door and out fell this 13 week old puppy that maybe weighed 13lbs! He couldn't walk well as his back legs didn't seem to want to support him and he smelled so bad it made my eye's water. She was desperate for the cash and my husband walked the dog while I looked over the records. When my husband came back around the car, I grabbed the puppy and placed him in the back seat of my SUV and shut the door, I asked when I turned around, what's his name? She said he doesn't have one we call him Dog! My husband started to question the vet records and AKC papers she had, she said she would just take $100 for him to get him off her hands, my husband was not happy and said it was trouble and we shouldn't take the dog! There was no way in hell I was letting this woman take back this poor animal! I won and 'Max' is home with us. I know that I have opened a worm hole of trouble for myself but I don't care.
I rushed Max to the vet as soon as I got home, he is 14lb's not 13 but still very much under weight. He has more worms than the doctor could name for me to remember, he has a eye infection and no muscle tone in his back legs. I got his med's, feeding him and caring for his every needs. He is so beautiful! He is a show dog, just doesn't look it yet, the vet said we have to wait and see if the meds help. Please pray for my new little buddy!
Max is in bad shape but he is so smart I am amazed! he woke me twice last night to go outside to potty, he learned sit and shake in 24hrs! I do believe he may just be the smartest little guy on the planet, just very sick. He still isn't eating a lot of food he does drink water, his stool is just water and he has thrown up twice. He sleeps more than anything but does play and I have started to walk him although he gets tired very fast.
Looking for idea's, training suggestions, anything to help Max turn out to be a great dog! He follows me room to room, doesn't let me out of his site.
I tracked down the breeder, they didn't seem shocked like I was, Hmmm...The puppy was sold to someone and that person sold it to the lady "Patty" that sold it to me, 3 homes and he is only 13 weeks.
Thanks and I look forward to speaking with everyone.

Get him healthy first. He sounds like he should see the vet again, or at least call the vet and tell him what happened overnight.

I did call the vet back first thing this morning, he said it will take a few days for the meds to kick in and as long as he is playing and eating not to worry, he is seeing him again on Friday. I was mad when I called the breeder today, she said he was the 1st born of 12 puppies, he was the runt but was not sick when she sold him, she did ask me for an updated picture of Max and said they breed for show dogs. I do believe her as I have seen some of her dogs in show adds I found online, just surprised and how this turned out.
You should see Max, he is all bones on the back side, the vet believes he was in a crate all day everyday and that his back legs did not build muscle tone, he said he is perfect except for a slight overbite but other than that he is marked great, good shoulder's something like that. He said he was beautiful. He suggested training, not sure what kind, but since he is a smart little guy, Well he does have the biggest feet I have every seen on a dog!!! LOL. I thought about maybe doing some training work with him or some show stuff. Of course since I have never done this before I would have to start at the kindergarten level...

Good for you for rescuing this pup from a very bad situation. He's a very lucky pup - and who knows, he might be a great one and you just got the best dog for $100. You never know - either way he'll at least have someone who cares what happens to him.

ShellysMax,
Sounds like God placed him exactly where he needs to be. I'm sure the vet already checked him for parvo?
As far as him being so smart, I believe these animals know when someone has rescued them and they are so quick to reciprocate with what you want from them.
God Bless you for rescuing him. I'm sure he'll have a much better life.

animules, I have the perfect tree.............
What the hell is wrong with that breeder, she is not asking for money, a refund or to bring the pup back. Just guidence in getting him healthy and how to work with him. Or am I missing something?

Good for you for rescuing. The poor pup. Lots of Fluids, dont worry about food , just fluids. Make Chicken broth for him and give him some chicken and rice if you can, but dont make a big deal out of food. He will grow stronger each day with love and more love. Don't take him from home much at all, till he is healthy he needs to stay home and he shouldn't have other doggy visitors or visitors who have new puppies at home, so nothing is transferred to him or them. He is at risk for other infections, so keep him safe. Enjoy the little furball and give him lots of praise and love.
Good luck!
