I would like to purchase a good, safe aluminum crate this summer. I find lots of them on the internet, but would like to hear recommendations. Also, if anyone has good used crates for sale.

I too would like information on these and have a question.

Wouldn't aluminum be hot with the sun beating down on it? I noticed on the internet sites they say that it does not absorb the sun's heat. How is this? Just curious. They're also pretty expensive. However, I guess you wouldn't have to replace them and they would probably be safer for your dogs than the airline crates.

There is a place in Texas called Kustom Krates (http://kustomkrates.com/) I know a couple of people with these crates and they are very nice.

I was wondering about heat and ventilation too. I was also wondering why they are sized so small. Most are 24x28x36. A crate should be big enough for the dog to sit with their head up and lay down flat. The rules for airlines say twice the width x one and a half the hight x one and a half the length of the dog.

So these crates would fit females maybe, but not 24 to 26 inch males.

I have two excellent crates for sale made by Kustom Krates. Bars are spaced 1 inch apart so the dog cannot get teeth on them and chip their teeth. No, aluminum does not heat up. Still, one must use common sense and make sure dogs are properly shaded, have access to water etc. Airlines only require a dog to be able to stand and turn by the way and most state kennel regulations only require the same, although I prefer to always give my dogs much more room unless only being crated for a short time at training. These two crates are custom made to my specs. I have never had trouble getting male or female GSDs into them or other dogs for that matter. They also lock. These are very expensive but were the best money I ever spent. I also have a custom set up in my vehicle made by the same guy and it too is of excellent quality and will last many lifetimes. I do not need these two that are free-standing. They are heavy so shipping, depending on method, might be expensive too. Whether you buy these or not, there is no other crate on the market that is the quality of the crates Mark at Kustom makes....bar none. He does not mass produce so sometimes one has to wait to get one made. Last time I looked, each crate I have was priced at over $1100 and it is worth every penny. I would prefer fiberglass over aluminum. Please check out the crates from www.wt-metall.de . Either click on English and download the pdf.file or click on "Boxen". The same with trailers. Fiberglass is better and lighter than aluminum (Jones Trailer).

I have two double crates from WT-Metalls in my van. I LOVE them! They are easy to remove if I need to and my dogs are very comfortable in them. I also like that I can remove the center wall to make the double crate one big crate for long distance traveling. They are also very reasonably priced.

These are at the side doors of my van behind the front seats...

These are in the rear of my van...
