Broke out the Harley this weekend and rode to DC to visit the Vietnam Veterans Memorial and pay tribute to the heros whose names are inscribed there, and say a quick prayer for those who are still unaccounted for.  As well as for those who did come back to a society that spat on them and called them "baby killers."  As you have your holiday BBQ and enjoy having your families and dogs nearby I would ask that you take a moment to do the same.

You're right PSP.  Remember the reason for the season.

And with all of the import issues lately, please make sure your US flag isn't one if them.  There are still US flags made in the US.

Nice post  Proud .. Poppa ....... and if i can add since this is a GSD site ... let's not forget all those GSDs [ thousands !!]  ... that have have given their lives and have never come back too .. For they have  contributed to the Legacy : that the GSD is the Best , most well rounded , versatile Breed filed with Love, Service , and Devotion .

My 18 year old cousin's name is on that wall. He lost his life inear the Macong Delta during the Tet Offensive leaving behind his wife of one month and his grieving parents. His mother never did get over his death and spent the rest of her short  life in and out of hospitals.

Amen to buying flags made only in the US. It's the least we can do to express our partiotism.

It's difficult to recall how many of our great dogs have given their lives to serve mankind without being enraged when one gets refused a campsite because your companion is a GSD.

Bring then home, Mr. Bush........

A sincere thank you to ALPHA for that reminder of the warriors who did not even get a trip home, just abandoned to a fate that can only be imagined.

Yes thank you to all that have served.

I had an Uncle who was killed in Viet Nam an another who earned the Bronze Star for driving his wrecker into some serious stuff and pulling his buddies out, keeping them of The Wall.

Thanks for reminding everyone to remember.

Thanks for a great post PSP.

I have friends that served in Viet Nam, they always loved it when their patrols were accompanied by a GSD. They said they were never ambushed, the GSD always detected and alerted them if the enemy was nearby. Many of them owe their lives to the fearless GSDs that allowed them to get the jump on the enemy.
