Shepherd Woman

by Shepherd Woman on 26 May 2007 - 02:05

This really took me by surprise.  So I was at work, and a new employee we have working there was talking to another employee about her female GSD.  She showed her a picture that is on her phone.  She commented that she would like to have a litter of pups with her before she gets too much older.  The bitch is 4 years old now.  The other employee said well, {pointing at me}!  she's got a beautiful stud!  The woman looked on my locker and saw pictures of Chaos.  She said wow, they would make beautiful puppies!  I said well, number one, he's not ready!  He's only 1 year old, only had his eyes certified.  No hips done yet, no cardio, no elbows.  I told her I'm not even sure if I am going to use him yet for stud, that I haven't really even thought about it yet.  Then I asked her if her female has her certifications for everything before she thinks about having a litter.  And if she has any titles yet.  She said well I KNOW her hips are good, she doesn't have that funny slope like most shepherds do!  And I said how do you know her hips are good if you haven't had them checked?  She said well I just know.  I said ok!  Then I asked her if the dog was American or German and she said well, I wouldn't know, she's a rescue!  I said ok! lol.  Then she said, well, you should have seen her when I first got her, she had the mange so bad, her face was all black and she had no hair!  And that the vet told her she shouldn't breed her because it might be hereditary!  I said and you want to do it any way?????? She said well I think it would be kewl for her to have a litter at least once, and I'm not looking to make any money off of the pups!  I said well ya know what, I think you need to look somewhere else, because I don't think that Chaos is the right stud for you, lol.  I walked away just shaking my head, and wondering why some people just don't think!

Thanks animules, I plan on it!  He's a great dog and I plan on putting all of our ducks in a row and having all of his health clearances done before we do anything.  He became a champion at just under a year old and now we are going for his grand.  I can't wait to watch him grow and mature into a more handsome boy than he is now.

SW,  although if you get an opportunity to educate her... might want to try,  I get it here every single day,  Idiots want a litter of pups to give away at Wal-Mart so the pit fighters can throw them in for bait.  uuuurrrggghhhh,  Might try just clue-ing her in a little.  As we all know,  she will be able to find another Idiot that knows the hips are good cause they walk good, and are not sloped to breed her bitch to.  with the education you could offer,  she might be wised up a bit and see what type of dammage and heartbreak she might set some poor family up for.  I always use that angle.  It works pretty well most of time,  if they are truly idiots I yell at them and tell them how stupid and uneducated they are and tell them to ask a vet what they think....  gets them thinking then.  Good Luck to you I know what your up against.

SW:  How could you be so mean?  That poor lady probably wanted to breed her dog so her children could experience the wonder of birth and now you have dashed her dreams.  Meanie!!!!

seuincc, you have GOT to be kidding.  Why on earth would I want to use my champion stud with a rescued GSD that does not have papers, dows NOT have health clearance to breed, and the lady doesn't even have a clue WHY she wants to have a litter of puppies with her bitch?  The ONLY way I would use Chaos for stud is, of course I would want to have his hips OFA'd, his elbows, cardio, thyroid, etc. done.  What ever has to be done WILL be done before I use him at all.  I would expect tha the bitch have the same done to her, and have at least a obediece, or conformation title.  I'm not in this to make beautiful puppies as she put it.  I'm in it to better the breed any way we can.  You don't even know me so how the hell can you call me mean, LOL.

Yeah, the wonder of birth, and wonder of death, when the unpapered pups are taken off to the pound, because the idiot owner can't find homes for them....

My local Pet Valu store has a cartoon in the window, that says exactly this...

And SW, I think you know sueincc was pullin' your leg... :-)

I'm not so sure, LOL.  I've read some of the other post, lol.  Just needed to respond though!  And I do agree that she would NOT beable to sell these pups when or if she does breed her.

Lat night I got on the computer and made several feeble attempts at humor which have fallen flat!!  For the record I think anyone that would breed their dog just so children can see the miracle of birth is selfish.  Am I the only one who has heard this from pet owners who want their dog to have  litter before spaying?  I think it's a terrible reason to breed a dog & shelters are full of these offspring.
