Brittany

I was searching for an E collar ( elizabeth collar) for Zambi, as shes in treatment for feet fungus. Part of her treatment is for her to NOT lick her bottom front feet, as what shes been doing.

I come walking inside petsmart to their collars area and decided to try one of the big size collars and to try it on Zambi.. obviously Zambi felt very uncomfortable and to top it off.. when I try to take the darn thing off.. one of the plastic holders broke (In the store) and it was such diffcult time getting the darn thing to come off.

What's shocking is that Petmsart is charging $19.95 for this piece of plastic junk.

BEWARE and don't buy an elizabeth collar from petsmart.

Brit,

Are you sure Zambi has feet fungus.  In 9 years of being a Veterinary Technician I have never seen foot fungus on a dog!  If licking is the problem then I would lean towards a food allergy!  Food allergies manifest them selves with symptoms of obcessive licking of the feet and often ear infections!  What do you feed?

Hey there Vickie,

Zambi's front 2 feet are raw (I'll try to get a picture of it later) .. according to my vet she told me that she is receiving more incidents with dogs licking their feet's. She also mention allergy, but not food allergies. I'm currently feeding her and my Jake Platinum Natural Dog Food (Chicken and Rice). Jake does not have the licking problem, only Zambi.

My boss's GSD got a very rare, potentially deadly, fungal (I believe) infection that started on her feet, she had to keep them wrapped and was on some costly meds.. They were also raw. It took a really long time for her to recover.

Didn't your vet give you an e-collar?

You took a dog diagnosed with a fungus to Petsmart? Way to NOT think of other people, Brittany. You do know that fungi have the ability to spread fairly easily???

What about the other customers of Petsmart and the pets that may be infected by your dog?  Come on girl, think.

I had a dog in the past that would lick one paw all the time which made it red. I found the constant moisture from the licking caused it. So when not doing anything I'd put cotton wool in between her toes and rap it in a bandage. Once the redness left she would forget about it for awhile, until the next time. I found the licking always made it worse, maybe saliva caused it?  You could always buy booties to stop the tongue licking, there where no booties back then for me.

Ashah, I bought some booties for Zambi.. I put it on her two fronts after I put the medication between her toes. I also leave the booties on when I'm not watching her, so she doesn't start licking her toes.

Were treating her feet with an anti inflammatory powder including an antibiotic.

Spreading the fungus? I would not buy a dog from somebody that has no regard for other peoples dogs health.

What Zambi has is NOT contagious. I'm not that arrogant person that you're trying to point me out to be as.

I'm inviting you too to come to my vets office for a recheck on this coming Thursday.. I'll have my vet tell you two personally that what she has ISN'T contagious.

Find out and post what specific fungas so we can research ourselves.  And make our own decission on if Zambi should be in public or not.
