by Max's Mom on 24 May 2007 - 13:05

Our beloved black East German Shepherd, Max, was shot 7 times by Charles County, MD Cop with a 357 mag on Tuesday, May 15th, while on his leash on our back porch, just 2 feet from our door.  The officer was there to serve a child support warrant for my step-son who did not live with us.  Alledgely the officer went to our front door and side door and then went to the back of the house where Max was on his leash, approached Max by the door, alledgely was snipped at, and then his fired 7 shots into our dog.  The ambulance on the scene reported his pants weren't even torn and he didn't even need a band aide.  To make a horrible situation even worse, the police told us they  had to take our dog and removed his head to test for rabies, even though we presented complete documentation that all his shots were up to date.  Our local news station in Washington DC on channel 7 & 9 came to our house to do an inteview and take video the bloody sidwalk where Max's teeth, jaw and blood lay.  You can read about the story on line at www.stmarystodayonline.com , the Washington Post carried the story on Sunday, May 20th.

We miss our dog so much, we are hoping we will be ready soon to add a new "MAX" to our family.  Is there anyone who can direct us to a breeder of East German Shepherd's we'd love another all black one.  There will NEVER be another Max, he was a super special dog, our hearts are broken.  FYI the police will not comment  and they say they are still investigation the incident.

I am so very sorry to hear about this.  It is absolutely heartbreaking.  Ive never been an advocate for suing people b/c we've become such a litigious society but I hope you sue these idiots and burn them a new ass.

How AWFUL! Sue the pants off them!

God Bless you and your poor, dear Max.

I would be in jail a long time if something like that happened to one of my precious dogs.

I am so sorry to hear this. What a horror. In this case ,I hope you do sue the cop,and the department. If you do, you will probably be told you can't sue because they have imunity. I am not a lawyer but I believe if you file an 'intent to sue' that is the exception.Sounds like the cop was a trigger-happy coward and should be suspended and get a psychiatric eval.

Wow!  Seven times?  He must have been a great shot.

I have respect for law enforcmetn officers......but many times they seem little better than the criminals they have to deal with on a day to day basis.

I appreciate the work that the good officers  are doing out there....for the bad ones....I believe bad energy will come back at you.

I read the story on St Mary's online (the link doesn't work) turns out the officer had already shot two other dogs in the past, one with a shotgun in a residential townhouse community. Its time to get this asshole off the streets.

You would think of all people a cop would respect a german shepherd guarding his own home. But instead fires 7 shots into the dog. What an idiot!!!
