I just contacted the animal behaviorist that I had to my house about 6 years ago to help me with Downy's barking, to see if they might be able to help with the Princess, Downy problem.  Would be great if they could.  Has anyone dealt with a animal behaviorist before with fighting issues and did it work?

Downy is the mix and she is almost 8 years old.  Princess is the GSD and just turned 7 years old.  We had Downy first.

A good trainer IS a behaviorist.  I'd say you need an experienced trainer who has dealt with various types of aggression. Clients come to me all the time after seeing a behaviorist and I can't believe the nonsense that people pay to listen to sometimes.

With the exception of the dog whisperer, I have yet to see or hear of a "behaviorist" who knew s&#t from shinola. Just find a good dog trainer.

I have had dealings with an animal behaviorist. A kennel I trained at for years had a buyer say the kennel sold them a bad temperamented dog.. The kennel raised, imported and showed Airdales...

Long story short I evaluated the dog and he showed no temperament issues. I came to the conclusion that the kennel should not have sold this novice pet home such a hard strong dog. He was really a super male, but because the dog was so strong the owner was really hard on him and that brought on some handler aggression. I blamed them both, wrong dog and the wrong owner!!!

The behaviorist placed the blame on noone and came to the conclusion that the dog is just what the dog is and neither the breeder or the owner were in the wrong!!! AH WHAT??? This was after a few high $$$$ sessions... :-) LMAO...

In short she said the same thing as me except she did not have the nerve to tell both people they were both at fault!!!!! Save your money and find a trainer that knows what the hell they are doing!!

Shepherd Woman:

I used a good trainer to help me handle Falon.  Falon is the one that gets the others going and initiates the spats.  She evaluated the way I handle Falon and drilled me until I handled her properly.  A good trainer can help you do things differently in the house and before you let them out.  It would seem from this post that alot of us experience similar issues with sending our dogs outside.  As stated by others above, you may never be able to trust the two alone, but  good trainer may be able to help you read the clues of when Princess is getting ready to attack and difuse it before it happens.  I wish you luck in solving the problem, and hope that one of the many good suggestions noted above will help you achieve success.  Hang in there.

Cheryl
