good evening everyone,
I'm the proud "mom" of 2 german shepards, a boy and girl, both 18 months.
they both have strong pedigree, are beautiful and smart.
I have them both into professional training, the girl is still one month to finish it.
my problem is that, as I'm rather new in the "training" business, I don't have too many information for home training.
from the trainer I learned different methods and tips, but I think this is a poor support as long as I want to have best understanding and communication with my dogs and, nontheless, I want them to go in competitions.
does anyone have an advice for me or even better some links / books I might search in order to enlarge these knowledge?
thank you very much in advance.
Cristina

Hi Cristina,
Are you saying you have a professional trainer come to your house? What type of training are you doing?
My best suggestion would be to take your dogs outside of the home for training, find a club to train with.
In order to compete, your dogs must be in different environments and still work well. Many dogs who behave at home and do as they are asked, do not do so well outside of the home, or in other social situations.
Good Luck with both your dogs

no, Stacy, the trainer is not coming to the house.
I have the dogs at a canine club, the male had 2 months training and now the female has one month to go.
In the first month the trainer taughed the dog basically the obedience programme, but on a basic level and in the second month I would go there, at the club, almost each evening, in order to work with the dog.
After 2 month, when I bring the dog back at home, I want to work with him more and for that I want to inform myself, this is why I asked for your support and guiding :)
thank you.

The best way to learn is experience. If you feel like your dogs and you will not progress and expand your knowledge when you are done with your current trainer's program, find a more experienced trainer who can teach you more!

I have read several training books and a lot of articles I found under dog training, but the best way to train and compete is by visiting some local clubs. I found it easier to understand by seeing handlers/dogs work, rather than reading....What you learn at the club you can then practice at home. I am very new to this myself so I can't be very much help. Good Luck! Have Fun!
