Held, here is a video of Bosko.  A really super dog.  I went to the Hagenmuhle website and watched his videos.  You are correct this a great dog.  The first video, shows exactly what I am talking about, even better than the video I am attempting to post.  Please go back and watch the first video of Bosko and you will see exactly what I am talking about, it is even in slow motion.  Thank you for picking a dog that clearly explains my point and we can both agree on.

Here is the link to the Hagenmuhle website the first video of Bosko shows it all:

I'm not sure if I embedded the video properly, I hope the youtube link works.  This could be a very interesting thread, if we keep it civil.

JMO FWIW,

Jim

What do you guys think about "tail" language? Even if the ears are up or down,  when I see what I call the "helicopter tail" I just know the dog is having a good time.  And I think the Bosco video shows that kind of happy "helicopter" tail. The straight up, stiff "flag" of a tail is a big warning to back off. And these are all different from the hello greeting "wag".

While I am surprised that this thread is still going, I am pleasantly surprised to see such a nice video, complete with slow motion, that so clearly illustrates the point.  And, on top of that, with a dog about which there is no dispute!!  Bravo!!

Sue,
Thanks, that's the video I wanted.  I think we can all agree that Bosko is a strong dog.  Can we all agree that ears by themselves do not tell the whole story?

Beetree,
To me tail wagging means excited, it can be happy or it can mean I'm angry or agitated type of excited.  A high held tail shows confidence and dominance.  A low wagging tail can mean aggression.  It really depends on several factors, such as speed of the wag and the position of the tail.  My dog will wag his tail in a big circle, I think from right to left, I need to watch closely, when he is happy to see me.  For example, he is outside waiting by the door to go to work and spots me coming to the door.  His tail goes in a big circle like a propeller.  To me that means he is happy to see me.  A tucked tail obviously shows some concern, fear or insecurity.  But, I never read the tail by itself, just like the ears.  You must read the entire dog.  Now a tucked tail and ears drawn back and kind of a hunched body posture, insecure or nervous, submissive.

I look at facial expressions also, and body posture, high on the toes, leaning forward means something to me.

Mystere,
I am glad this thread is going on as well and very happy Sue posted that video.
