People who need dogs for real working situations will always choose the dog that 1. works for what they are wanting to do 2. They can afford and 3. What is available to them.

This is very trite and makes some people feel good but this is far from true. I have heard too many LEOs state that they would NEVER have XXX breed. And most people that work in real situations can't have any breed they want. Can your local PD use a pitbull? Even the DOD only buys certain breeds. Lets keep it real.

Of course there are breeds that depts wont allow for DUHHH!!!! Apparently you dont read that well. I said what dogs are Available!!! That means within the departmental guidelines. 

  Most everyone knew what I meant and if they didn't...oh well...natural selection at work. 

If a LEO says they would not ever have xxx breed (Dutchie, Mal or GSD) then they are ignorant. Let me say that again.....IGNORANT! Same goes for a Dept.

The dog has to fit the handler of course for the team to be effective but professional dog handlers know that the best dog is the one that gets the job done most effectively. Some breeds fit some people better than others but thats a long way from being totally closed minded about a particular breed.

When looking for a Police K9 most PD's go to a vendor that imports dogs.  Most dogs imported for Police K9's are GSD's, Mali's and Dutch Shepherds.  I know of one handler that has used Rotties for years, he only works Rotties.  He also gets some of the best Rotties I have ever seen.  I have seen PD's use Bouviers, Giant Schnauzers and even a pit bull.  There are beagles, and small terriers used for detection work.  I wouldn't use a pit bull for patrol work for many reasons.  I'm sure they would be fine for detection work but they are not bred for that. 

People have prefences and personal choices just like Phil wouldn't own a GSD.  I know many LEO's that prefer a certain breed whether it is a Mali or GSD.  Just as you guys here do. 

This thread started out as ridiculous and continues that way.  There seems to be some need to over state the obvious on this forum or beat a topic to death.

This topic is stupid and always will be as i mentioned before.And anyone who is bent on discussing it in detail,is doing nothing more than wasting their time.These are two great breeds and if you do not know how to appreciate them then you are a dummy and not someone who knows alot about dogs.Have a nice one.
