I think it's more about the timing then the issue of whether or not she and her family could handle a dog.
To me Becca sounds like a nice person who is really looking for information to help her make the right decision. I wish more people would be that conscience.
As for my Kway pup, I'm off work for 2 weeks with her and she is sleeping at my feet right now. A few good play & training sessions a day and she is happy and settled when she is in the house. By training I mean learning the basics of sit, down, stay and here. She has the sit perfectly and is about 50/50 on the platz. She is doing ok on the here unless she is in high play mode, then she thinks it's funny to not only come to me, but to jump almost into my arms at the end. We are "gently" working on correcting that without freaking her out. She does a stay with me at about 5 feet out. Further then 5 feet out and she starts to break.
She seems to love and enjoy everything about the training sessions and you can just see her happiness when she has a task.
She is not "crazy" 24/7, but she is quite a "drivey" pup. Her energy level does sometimes amaze me. I love her because she is exactly what I wanted from a pup and she gets me off my ass and moving!
Becca, if you have the time and energy then more power to you, and Bill has awesome dogs. I wish you the best of luck with both babies!

Don: If she buys one of Kulladogs dogs, being a drivey pup, why wouldnt she want to contact Schutzhund USA , send in her $65.00 membership fee, and get some real info and a magazine each month, so hubby and her can see how , when and where to do things for this new puppy.....no greater place to receive a magazine filled with articles on how to train a high drive dog, and what to look for and help beyond all there is....refereal to clubs and sites to look up and then of course, read this database all the time and find the solutions..........a pet all 15 of mine are Pets....just dont tell tthem that
Id hate for them to become couch potatoes, or think they are all coming in the house at one time....tonight is Rex's night and tomorrow is Dieters night and the next night is Krissy ; s night.....and so it goes......
With every pup I sell , I either sell them or recommend Susan Barwig and Ray Hilliards book as their Bible, and on the Balabonof ?sp as they advance in their learning even if they are going to title or go to a club.....How else to understand these hightly inteligent giants......their pedigrees contain dogs of the max and even for a pet , the right training to address their particular needs is neccessary and you can enroll the pup in Petsmart obedience ........they know how to train that part and it works almost the same as what we do.....thats the most important ....they have puppy classes,,,,,,,,and they know who schutzhund people are......they just dont agree with the type of training we do....they arent trained for that.........but it sure is nice to know how the real german shepherd thinks.....
