Yeah Bob. Post some old stuff.
What's funny, and I'm not saying Sch is going to be the same, but as a kid, I always had to hear how great hockey was when my dad was a kid. Well ESPN classic cured that myth. I made my dad watch a game with me and he almost took back what he said.

Hi rik
Look at my web site ,under tributes.
The officer there chose the male and female that he wanted a puppy from.
Both of these dogs were untitled at that time.
This officer also gives many K9 SEMINARS. He also states that most of the Sch 3 dogs would not be a good canidate for a Police service dog.
I do care about the shepherd breed Rik,probably more than most Sch. people.
My friend the cop told me,when he looks at a tough sch. dog, what he sees is not truly what the dog really is.
He sais that most ego maniac Sch.people use all kinds of tricks,e collars, choking, forced retrieves, ect. ect.. mainly to satisfy their own ego. He said after these methods you are not really seeing the dog that he really is. I believe these are the people that have ruined the Shepherd breed.
Have a nice evening

Gouda, that is a poor post. How long have you been training dogs? I train with police handlers, schutzhund handlers and others that do both. Just because a guy is a police officer doesn't make him more knowledgable about dogs.
Mike Diehl runs a huge amount of dogs for indianapolis PD and is a hell of a handler in schutzhund. The guy has knowledge. If a guy like that was buying your dogs, I'd bite, but just because a guy is a cop doesn't make him an expert.
I started out training K9s and finally made my way into Schutzhund. I can tell you that there are many K9 handlers that have no idea what they are talking about. Many of them never handled a dog before they got their K9 because they were next in line for a promotion and they thought it would be cool to work with a dog.
We get K9 handlers out at our club every now and again and I can tell you that most of them couldn't read a dog if it had a teleprompter.

Of course a SchH3 dog isn't a K9, the training is completely different. The tracking style is different, apprehension style is different, necessary obedience is completely differnet and there is no detection work in SchH. Doesn't change the fact that many many police K9 come from titled lines...wonder why that is?!
Sam Spade, to answer your earlier question about why title a male except for stud- because it's fun and loads of learning for handler and dog, that's why.
Good post, btw.

Hi Sam
You might think it is a poor post,I believe it is a good one and a truthful one.
Hear in Canada they dont just give a officer a K9 because he is next in line.
Hear in Canada you are not allowed to train at a private Sch. club. They do not like one of their dogs to learn to bite
till they are 18 months. By the way Sam,would your SCH.3 dogs reatack after having a few ribs broken and knocked into silliness by a baseball bat? This dog, Sam comes to my place twice a year when Dan goes on holidays
He runs and plays with all my dogs,he is not agressive towards any of them. He absolutely loves children.
I care for the breed Sam. I named my kennel after my goodshepherd Jesus Christ. Im my dogs goodshepherd, and treat them the way Christ loves and treats me. The more I love my dogs, the more they seem to work for my wife and I.
I hope you have a wonderful week end.
P.S to hot hear to work the dogs.
God bless

What does religion have to do with this? I went to catholic schools my whole life. Even college, I went to a Jesuit university.
My point is that people automatically believe that police are born with the ability to train a dog. I know of departments that don't allow their dogs to do anything outside of department work and training. So how often does that dog get training?
And "here" in the US, I used to be in LE. Some of the worst handlers I have ever seen were LEOs. I hate when people think that cops know dogs because they employ them. Should the same be said about the stock boy at a lumberyard that employs Fido for night guard?
Now if he was a German cop, he'd get even more credit!

Gouda,
I'm not trying to pick on you, but to say that because a police officer ok'd your litter, it is evaluated, isn't the standard. Don't misunderstand me! Your litter may be great. And for that matter, even every Sch judge isn't what I would call ideal. I have been in the sport long enough to know which judge will give me an honest evaluation and which one will give me my best score ever.
I know I can be harsh and to the point. If I offended you, please forgive.
KCzaja,
Yeah it is fun, huh?

Malndobe, I was hoping to find someone express the FR viewpoint here. Refreshing, thanks.
SamSpade, Just because a guy has a respectably great amount of knowledge training dogs doesn't give him good breeding-sense, either.

"After reading all the posts its sad to see from some that sch is the only way to determine breed quality. Too bad herding has been just about been bred out of the dog since its still classified as a herding breed."Bhgauh, I couldn't agree more.

Daryl,
Did I say anything about mike and breeding or was I referring to reading dogs?
