hunter k-9,

I've seen some other GSD/Mal crosses.  I like the looks of yours best.  I hope you'll post updates on how he's doing now and then, after all he is part GSD too!

Very nice responses.  As for crossing Mals with Shepherds, I own a kennel and I cross the two to produce a better working dog.  I have always been a true GSD lover, but time moves on and so does the gene pool.  Back when GSD's were bred by Max there were many types of breeds used.  In the end there were only so many that established the breed.  Simple Biology, after so long genetically the genes have to make a complete circle.  That creates a slow break down in the quality.  And poor breeding has helped that along.  As for screwing up the breed? All you have to do is look around, that has been accomplised already.  It is super hard to find a true all around GSD.  I work and breed for Police/Military dogs.  I find maybe 1 out of a hundred GSD's that are good enough to do the job.  The Mals are a little hotter but they also are being torn down by the same practices.  The fact is half of the dogs coming out of Europe are not what they say they are.  Most of my breedings where I have crossed the two i have noticed they mainly look like shepherds but with the Mal colors.  I remember owning several shepherds as a kid in the  late 70's and early 80's.  The crossess I have worked and bred are the what I remember the shepherd to be.  But we all have our opinion and typically nothing changes that.
