I have not been following this thread but I guess my "red flag" comment upset Jennifer with Kulla Dogs.....
This was in no way intended to be disrespectful or critical of your dog. I do not know your dog and have never seen your dog. The "red flag" comment was about a new GSD owner with a new baby getting a working line pup. It could be from any top working line dog. I don't believe this situation would necissarily be a good one. I don't like the idea of selling top level competition dogs to new owners wanting a pet for a number of reasons. This is just my opinion, as I stated.
If you re-read my post, I also told her to talk to you guys because you might have a pup that would suit her needs. Stating your dog is a top level competition dog and to maybe look for "a little less dog" would be a compliment to me.
I apologize if you took it any other way.

I need to stand up for MArlene Wiggins and Alabama k9 She is just trying to make sure that lady looking for a dog gets the right information so she can make the right choice for her family. Marlene wiggins does NOT!!! sell just any dog to anybody just to make a fast dollar! I have one of her dogs in my home and I can tell you this He would never harm a child or another small animal! And yes I have both in my home. He does protect me everynight I go to work. I also have a puppy from her litter that is in traing now and I can tell you He wouldn't hurt a child either. Make sure you check out the breeders and look for both parenst to be there so you know what you are getting. and yes there is a difference in back yard junk and german working lines.

I'm going to sound like a real "B" here, but, this thread is about Kway Posthorn and Bill Kulla, NOT Marlene Wiggins from Alabama K9. So lets not go on and on and on about that.
When I started looking for my new pup, I looked really hard at getting one from Kway. I know someone who did a breeding to him and from what I understood, the pups were OUTSTANDING! Good drive, great temperment, easy to train, and brought a lot to the field naturally. The only reason that I passed on getting one is that I purchased an Asko son of my own. (I was really wanting the Asko blood..LOL)
To the OP, I would say, with a baby on the way, puppy may not be the best option for you right now. Puppies are a LOAD of work! You'll just need to be honest enough with yourself as to whether or not you can both physically and mentally handle both.

Sorry to bring this thread back to life, but I have been busy and gone!
I'm suprised no one jumped all over this one. All of you breeders that say you don't sell to people without a fenced in yard, have not read the statement that Rebecca lives in a townhome.
So, let me get this straight. Newborn + Working line puppy - Fencing = a disaster waiting to happen!

A townhouse and she wants a high working line germans shepherd pup......disaster spelled No way Becca a germans shepherd requires a lot of running and playing room or he will chew ,destroy and elimiate your townhouse, no matter what line of choice you make........or you will have to kennel it all the time.. are you goin to load the pup in your vehicle every day and take it to the park or to a training center.,,,,which first on the list is get pup started in a class with a trainer,,,,,,,,Hubby is new to a shepherd also.???????
Most people posting here have forgotten ,,,,this is a lady in a townhouse, just now pregnant , hubby gonna help , and never once did she say she had contacted schutzhund usa or any of the working orgs. to find out what you need to do to get involved......I still say she has not got a clue what she is gonna get if she goes with a high end gsd....from these bloodlines......sure a few people here have children, so do all the heads of the clubs in Dallas and all over the world but they are working dedicated people with a knowledge and a hardcore desire to breed ,train and a different kind of a person that Becca ........I have put my dogs first before my family for 35 years and I have the scars of that to show, but my daughter and son have finally seen, Im not changing I carry the grandkids pictures and I love them dearly, but my husband died when I was 40 and my life has been caring, training, raising and breeding germanshepherds, and I had to lay schutzhund down because of orthopedic faults in my back. and joints... Many a policmans wife decides she cant stay in a marriage where the dog gets all his time and attention and it has to.....can work a dumb neglected dog.,,,and then his job takes the rest of his time.........so if Becca is ready for the task she will decide that........or she buy a pup stick it in the back yard courtyard hopefully with a high fence , and let it be.......Good luck Becca.....get some books and start reading and go visit local clubs please before you do this.......and an older dog is not my suggestion.....reason You dont get the joy of PUPPY BREATH.............and you dont get to form ur impressions on the pup and get the kissessssssss and the joy of all that you teach yourself that wonder fuzzy new child.....

by yellowrose of Texas on 26 June 2007 - 18:06
and yes children can become great junior handlers but first they have to have parents or grandparents that in the sport or a special person of interest that is guiding them and a child that has a real love for the dog and sport or that has animal instincts will do well and it s the greatest joy to see on the trial field but dont get that vibe here on this thread.........

Why does Rebecca need to contact SchH USA? She only wants a pet
by Becca24 on 26 June 2007 - 19:06
I am not completely ignorant on what kind of time investment a puppy is. My question is basically will a puppy off a Kway or Kway type litter be non stop 24-7. From speaking with many different breeders the answer has been 100% "no". Most (actually all I've talked with) breeders seem willing to find the right puppy to make a nice house pet. I had been doing my own research and found this site to get more opinions. My husband has had 3 shepherds in his lifetime and this will be his dog. I don't see why I have to contact a schutzhund group. When we met he had his last shepherd and it was the most well behaved dog I'd ever come across. I know he can handle training the puppy on his own. Yes we live in a townhouse, but that is temporary. He does not want to wait until we buy our house and as long as he gives the pup excercise, I don't see it as a problem. I appreciate everyones suggestions and advice, but I really think some of you need to lighten up. You don't have to be a top schutzhund trainer to provide a loving, caring home and raise an incredibly happy dog.

Rebecca
Please don't take any of these opinions to heart. Everyone is just trying to lend a hand. Nobody is saying that a Kway pup will be 24/7. I think that people are merely concerned with you having to go 24/7. I normally don't post on these type of threads, but my wife and I have had two kids in the last 3 years. My wife does most of the child care and household chores. Man is she great! Anyways, even your husband may get overwhelmed. Personally, I would wait until the child is a bit older and you move into a house. I think it will be one thing less to worry about and better for everyone involved, dog included.
Just an opinion. I wish you all the best with your child and whatever decision you make. We can only give an opinion on what we know. You have all the info and I'm sure whatever you decide will be just fine!

Lord have mercy, ya'll give Becca a break! She's a smart woman and she knows what's right for her family. I know you're concerned, but it is not like this pup is going to take over her life. Cana is a big part of our lives as a family, but she's never been any trouble. They are not a constant 24/7 spaz-bot that you have to hold all day. THe or she will be A FAMILY PET! I take Cana out 3x per day and throw the ball with her. She gets attention, but she's part of the family, she is not the ONLY member of the family. And she doesn't NEED to be "handled" constantly.
I have been alone. for quite awhile taking care of everything (Kids, dogs, house, myself...everything else) with my husband being deployed for the second time. My "alone" time with Cana (ball time) is very special to both of us, but she is ALWAYS with the family getting attention. I spend maybe 45 minutes a day throwing the ball, total and she is very healthy and very happy. She was trained very easily, and I'll tell you, if I had someone else to help me with training her, it would have been MUCH easier, but I did not. I did it, I have done a pretty good job, and nobody in this family is lacking for anything.
I think it's crazy telling Becca that she's going to get this dog that's going to tear up her house and her fence, etc..etc..etc... Yes they have to be re-directed, and any behavior liek taht can be stopped quite easily. It isn't that hard!! I It's frustrating when you don't catch it the first time, but it is generally taken care of quickly with chew toys, etc..etc... Plus, her husband will be doing the majority of the training work, and she will be re-inforcing it....
Grrrr...nevermind. I understand what you were trying to do, but I kind of get the "little woman" feeling from some of the posts. Like "how cute, the little woman wants a puppy and doesn't know what she's getting in to..."
