 Ruger1:

Agree with you totally. THanks for supply truths..  I do not believe in any outside predictions or astounding revelations given by tongues in todays situations.

Yes, christians who say or proclaim to be, pick and choose too.  IF you repent and change your days to be the obedient man or woman you want to be, you will be forgiven..

If you continue in the OLD self with old sin, and even sin over and over knowing but expect GOD to be sitting there with Jesus His SON the giver of LIFE for us, GOD will say  I never knew you..If you want to question GOD then,,his answer was,,,,,you were told over and over and over but you chose to follow your self made rules not mine..

I am paraphrasing what Ruger 1 and Shtal posted in lay language like I would tell a friend who ask my how I try to be obedient.

NO easy and none of us are sinless. WE all have sinned and fallen short of WORTHINESS> BUT we ask and repent and change..

Prayer to our Heavenly Father is how we do that.

WE walk by FAITH and not by site.

We are all aware there are scriptures and scripts that have been found and we know what they all say and lead to..YOU have to study to show ourselves approved before GOD and learn what is real. ONE page on this internet will not give you all the answers..it is not like INSTANT OATMEAL>.it is divine intervention and divine revelation given from the beginning of time by GOD>>>he used many ways and means to do it...you have to spend years studying the WORD...and men have preached many lies and many falsehoods..BIBLE warns about that too..in the end time...rumours and rumours of Wars and many will be false teachers..

Keith Grossman

Deanna, I was raised a Catholic and went to parochial schools for a good part of my youth.  I played the role of Jesus in a production of Jesus Christ Superstar in Germany and openly wept one night when I was overcome with how the person in this story must have felt when all of the people who supported him suddenly turned their back on him and demanded he be put to death.  The tipping point for me in which I started thinking critically about the subject of religion and God and Jesus was caused by two factors:

First and foremost, it was caused by people like Shtal who would presume to speak for their omniscient and omnipotent god.  There is no greater example of human arrogance than those who would presume to do so.  Their stories about the fire and brimstone and an eternity of suffering for those who, given the capacity for reason by that same god they espouse, might question it.  If God loves all of His children, has the capacity to forgive all sin and wants nothing more than for all of his children to reside for all eternity with him in heaven, why doesn't he simply do that?  He's God; right?  Can't he make that happen?  I no more want to spend an eternity with a vehement god who would sentence those he loves to an eternity of agony than I would want to accept a free weekend in a resort owned by Hitler.  It simply doesn't make sense.

The straw that broke the camel's back for me was the movie, "The Passion Of The Christ."  Never have I seen anything so obscene.   That I wept after watching that monstrosity would be an understatement.  Why would a loving god use what is arguably the most egregious example of man's inhumanity to man to prove that love?  Again, it simply doesn't make sense so I started to research and I learned.  I learned about all of the other religions that preceded Christianity and about all of the other scripts that told the same story long before the bible was ever a thought and I learned about how the books in the bible were selected at a convention hundreds of years after Jesus supposedly died by people who, according to the very bible whose books they selected, could not have possibly been blessed with divine intervention so how did they know which books to include or exclude?

It is ridiculous at its core but I will say this...if there is a god, I'm betting she judges people more on who they are and who they helped and how often and how consistently than on bullshit prosthelitization on any internet forum.  I can't bring myself to believe than any omniscient and omnipotent being has such a weak ego that he/she needs affirmation by people who are willing to abandon logic or that that god would sentence anyone to an eternity of pain for potentially mundane mistakes made in judgement during our short stay in this life.

This is all easily settled...God could simply show up and put the entire issue to rest...didn't he supposedly do so through Jesus?  Why was it ok then and not ok now?  Why is faith a requisite now when it wasn't then?  Wouldn't the world be a better place if God showed himself in no uncertain terms; wouldn't people change the way they act toward one another?

He/she doesn't because he/she doesn't exist.  This is all just something made up by people because they want to believe that they are far to important to simply stop existing when they die.  It's all about fear of death and those who would exploit that fear for their own control/benefit.

Immortality is a big part of it, and your reasons for how it hits "all",  fit the average mindset, no argument here... but...It is the select discernment that exists, and needs reckoning. You just might not have it, and you know what? It might be okay.......!

Keith:

Yes  , fear is used for centuries to make people abide ..IT is ashamed that such has embeded in the mind of many people a false sense of what really is taught by GOD's word. MANY men preach and teach false christianity..THE BIBLE tells us that.

SATAN is alive and well..he hates Jesus and his POWER as the Son of GOD and he likes nothing more to put DOUBT in mind of man..I see that has been done.

A real christian or a child of GOD will be your friend, help you , be patient of your doubt and help give you some things to read and study. ALL humans have to study to learn..GOD has provided a way...

Believe or not believe GOD's word NOT some man or prophet.  IN yesteryears yes, but GOD paved the way to the BOOKS written so man can learn...BUT man has to turn to an older man to understand..the BIBLE tells the older women to instruct the younger ones..MAN is responsible for his family and to instruct the young in the ways to go...that is all I know to tell you on the internet in one page..

Sorry that  man has made ways to make money in churches all over the world..MONEY is greedy and the root of evil is the love of money...

MONEY has been made on GODS words...everywhere...not GOD's handiwork MANS...MAN is self destructor and always has been..GOD yanks us up by our boot straps inthe middle of it and we come back to HIS way not ours.

Keith-

I tried reading the childrens bible to my children until they looked at me and asked why God would do these hurtful things to the people he loved. I had no answer. It makes no sense then or now. To me religion is about control and I don't want to be controlled by people who don't even have their own house in order. Witnessed to many hypocrites in my lifetime to just forget it and believe blindly.

  GSDMOD:

I know there is so much control in religion everywhere.. GOD is not about religion..

CONTROL is wrong. JUST like how we see so much divorce, so much hate, so much sexual harrassment and evil doing in our churches, in our world,...where and when will it end.

WHEN GOD says    IT IS TIME>

WE know that as GOD's Word tell us...  I have all my  years in CHURCH serving as choir directors, song leader and soloist, ss teacher, been on the other end of being criticized because I do not take orders from MEN who have agendas.....or a church should I say that has agendas.  I have seen in many churches ...control......it is in everything..

IN your job environment...CONTROL.... in our GOVERNMENT ....control...in anything you are a participant of.....CONTROL

.SOME marriages are built on   a mate ///either gender  who CONTROLS>>>it is SELF MADE MAN RULE ...not GOD's way

God understood his man he made...so he told us ways to overcome it..RISE above it..DO NOT Let any man tear down GODS' handiwork..YOU control your own fate ..YOU control your desire to be a child of the KING>.....sure it is a looooonggg road ...but rewarding...

I can tell yu ....there are months of discouragement, other christians who call you names, other christians who lie , other christians who cause you tears and anguish...other christians who do not live in the WORD>...IT is YOU that has to put on the WHOLE armour (all of GODS words) in your life and you make yourself the promise to yourself and your family...I Will continue to PRAISE HIS name and do what I know is right... I live alone because I won't  lower my morals.

I will not lower or waiver my beliefs for pleasure . SO I pay the worldly price..DOES it hurt....YES>

I have been called names, called a whole lot of names and made lots of GSD hopefuls mad because I won't go against my way of living the way I believe GOD wants me to.. AM I perfect.. NO  I am HUMAN....I smash my face daily...with deeds not good...all of us do...but we stand firm , ask GOD forgiveness and try to do better...BETTER is a big word but it FITS>.

I am hurt YR (lol), it seems like some of our Christian members like to play childish games, tell lies about others, start stories they know will fire up certain members and hate on different races.

I believe what I believe and it is nothing like what the bible preaches or our resident extremists preach. Can't each of us find our own way without being told we are going to hell?

All I know know, bee, is that most of what happens when I go to sleep at night I don't remember and that I remember nothing from the one or two occaisions that I've been knocked unconscious.  I understand that the suggestion that at death everything simply goes dark is uncomfortable but making up some alternate universe to escape that reality somehow just doesn't seem reasonable to me.  Who knows, I might be pleasantly surprised but, again, if my failure to have kowtowed to some nebulous insecure being is more important than the acts of kindness I've committed in my life, something is seriously fucked up in this place they call heaven.

Keith,

Good post's.  I believe you've summed up how many feel about god and religion, my self included.
