I also had once - years ago a lady that was INSISTING that my dog is not purebred GSD (even when I told her that she is papered with Ch. pedigree). "Well, she doesn't look like GSD to me, she has to be a MIX. Your AKC papers lie..." - she knew better.

OhMiGawd ROFLMAO @ other posters experiences!
I get kids all the time asking about my "police dogs"
My first GSD was a Czech import, DDR/Czech lines. She was stocky, built like a tank, black/red blanket back. I once had someone stop me who really thought she was a Malinois (she looked NOTHING like a Mal, not even lean built!)
I took my W. Ger showline sable girl (Timo Berrekasten line) to college campus once to play with her in this large field between the buildings, some guy walked up and thought she was a coydog and so cool for being a hybrid.
I have a VERY thick coated longhair GSD black/mahogany red color, very deep red! I've gotten comments that people think she is a chowchow or chow mix
Back when I worked at a show Labrador kennel I used to take dogs out for car rides, walks at the park or stores. Because these were thick built stocky English show type dogs I had soooo many people stop and ask if they were rottweiler mixes, especially the solid blacks or fox red dogs!
