If we had a Costco anywhere near, I may try the Natures Domain. But we do not have a Costco anywhere near that I am aware of. I have been feeding the TOTW for years, dogs do great on it, so I am happy with it. I rotate between the Pacific Stream and the newer Lamb formula. But if the price keeps going up, not sure how long I will be able to stick with it. One large bag last me a little over a week with my 4 dogs. Each bag is now costing me $48 plus change. My husband has started mentioning it, and did one week come home with something different when I sent him for food. The look I gave him did enable him to get the correct food next trip. But I know he is not happy with the cost going up. Yolanda

Thanks for the "feedback." LOL

The cost of good quality food is certainly and issue. TOTW has gone up to around $45/30lb bag for me locally. several months ago tractor Supply company had it "on sale" for 32.99. I could handle that price, but at $12 more a bag, I just can't justify it. I can buy chicken leg quarters for .48 -.68/lb, I can buy Blue Ridge Beef raw product for $1.15/lb, I can get out of date (today) boxes from my local butcher which often contain huge roasts, and other cuts of beef, chicken and yes pork for free.

I use Best Breed, Working Dog Diet. Has to be shipped but I am lucky . We have several of us who use it at our club so we order by the pallet. I get it for $36 - $38 for 30 lb bag. Takes 2 - 2.5 cups a day for a 74 lb very active GSD male. He looks great, good energy. I have even switched my poodles and beagle over to it. They have trimmed down considerably, put on muscle, coats are great and less poop. My vet even asked for the info on the food since my dogs look so good and are rarely ill.

anyone try this?

If I fed raw, I'd consider it, just to make sure that my dogs recieved a proper diet..

About

Just add meat! The easiest way to make homemade dog food, Preference is a grain-free foundation diet, to which meat must be added with every feeding. The beauty of Preference is that you can add whichever meat you would like, so it’s an excellent option for dogs that can’t tolerate more common protein sources or who just like a little variety. Suitable for dogs of all ages including pups and seniors.

How to Use Preference

Preference is suggested for use with added raw meat, meaty bones or cooked meat of your preference (never cooked bones), as a base for a home made diet. It’s ideal for dogs who are sensitive to more popular meats. Therefore, more exotic meats, fish or alternative protein sources may be used as required.

I tried Honest Kitchen and all my dogs HATED it... none of them would touch it. Even my male who will eat ANYTHING.. he smelled it and walked away.

Yes I am now using Honest Kitchen on my older picky skinny male;  he is actually eating it very well.  And you do get a shot of extra vitamins/minerals;  I used preference and just added ground meat and the great thing about that food is you can change the meat sources as needed so they don't get bored with it.  I am also using Zeal;  it's fish and picky is also eating this well.  I still add some meat to Zeal;  the only thing is you need to soak it for at least l/2 hour or so,  if you make it in a batch you can soak, refrigerate and feed the next day which work well;  I soak and refrigerate and add meat in AM.  Also you can add as much water as needed and hydrates dogs really well for dogs that are showing and working sometimes dedhydration can be an issue in the summer.  This works great for that.  Coats look good also;  let's see it has been about a month now.  So far so good.  Nan

PS:  Also great for traveling if you are feeding raw...and quality is far better than any dry dog food...

Bought a 35 pound bag of Nature's Domain salmon and sweet potato for $32.70 at Costco yesterday. Mixed it with Diamond Naturals lamb and rice. My dogs loved it. I also supplement with raw.

Well the BEST quality dry kibbles are sometimes astronomical in price, Carna4, that is the best I've found www.carna4.com.  I checked the wholesale price and it was something around $110 for a medium-sized bag if I remember correctly.  There's also a great freeze-dried food I looked into, but was cost prohibitive.

I am going to say Orijen is the best.  I prefer Orijen to the other kibbles like TOTW.  The price is on the higher-end but worth it.  I also sell Acana, which is a bit lower cost and made by Champion Pet Foods, same company as Orijen and also very good quality.

dogfoodanalysis.com may be useful, but keep in mind who runs it-- who knows!  They are not nutritionists and as far as I know it's purely a laymans opinion.

I recently switched from raw back to kibble and love the results from Blue Buffalo  Wilderness.  But not because of price lol.
