Rik,
           The hard truth indeed..

VonIsengard

Great topic, and largely why I use my real name. It keeps me from saying anything I would not be willing to say to someone in person. Of course, I sometimes put my foot in my mouth, but that happens real life, too!

I never cease to be amazed at the behavior and language of so-called adults. To be honest, when someone takes pains to hide who they are on this or any forum it makes me seriously doubt much of what they say and not take them very seriously.

The problem, Kim, is not just this message board but our whole society. Where is the professionalism anywhere? 16 year old kids stumbling into businesses dressed like the homeless or a Rent cast member, mumbling, "Can I have a application? " (Yes A, not AN, that was deliberate)...are you kidding me? I received a good old fashioned upbringing by my elderly grandmother and you better believe at 16 I walked into businesses in a dress suit, asking for the manager, greeting them with a smile, a handshake, and eye contact while politely enquiring about employment.

Walk into any Target or Walmart. Find the group of employees yakking it up and ask where something is. Watch them all turn and glare at you for interrupting their conversation.

Professionalism? A sadly dying concept everywhere. Parents no longer teach it to their children.

PL said.... The topic

"I think this forum has immense potential for Professionals to share their ideas, techniques and knowledge. And also help educate people who are truly interested in learning, this is a forum that they should feel comfortable in asking questions without fear of ridicule"

You should be able to ask a question without fear......That's why I come
here, if some one is running rough shod over people about dog questions, I will
put them in check. They have nothing over me, as they will soon find
out. When they loose their steam they always come with insults instead
of good productive answers.
As far as bragging... you can brag all you like but when it's time to compete, you
better be able to back your shit up.
I choose who I want to know on a personal bases, if I have a heated debate
with some one I don't want them to feel I am going to judge them unfairly
in a competition.....But there many other good reasons but this my choice.
The forum has long way to go yet for good evaluation I think.

There are two  types of champions....One is the A type personality, the other
is what I call the doggie personality.

1#.The A type is hard to beat because he is very methodical,
plans his routines, and is a good stewart of his time.
But Generally does not have the close communication
with his dog.

2#,The doggie personality is more flexible and can adjust his
routine when he needs to and it does not bother him in
the least. (very French). Has better relationship with his dog.
But is not a good stewart of his time.

Both types are very hard to beat, in dog trials and in life.

Ah, Kim, you see it has all deteriorated, once again, from what began as useful and informative to a load of blubbering gibberish...same old, same old, but granted, slightly less malicious than it at times becomes...so far at least...

I'll leave you with one last thought on this subject. A Wise old Dog Trainer once said to me;

"Never try to teach a pig to sing, your most likely wasting your time, and it aggravates the hell out of the pig"

This is a great thread and well needed. I joined this forum to learn and have learned a great amount of information. I agree with SP some of us have our beloved German Shepherds as pets. People need to feel welcome here and not in fear or shame for asking questions, even the professionals were once newbies,so we all have to start somewhere and I think this is a great site ,with some great knowledgeable people on here.
Warm regards,
Michele
