Cage, please look at all the dogs in the pedigree, the history of the sire's production, and the chain of black dogs going back.

Roland in the pedigree (he's probably behind every GSD now) doesn't make it likely that there's a black recessive that made it all the way through a bunch of black/red show dogs. Possible--yes. Likely?

But what isn't likely is how the sire and grandsire of the pup I linked produced black pups no matter who they were bred too.

All the dogs from the progeny list have black ancestors,check their pedigrees.

Just about every GSD alive today has black ancestors. Doesn't mean that every dog possesses the black recessive. And the show lines have effectively selected *against* the black recessive for many generations. As I said--possible; not really likely. Your opinion may differ.

Some of the showlines still carry that gene,of course,they are not many.
