Dawn, could you name me 10 current showlines with Gucci's accomplishment. That way I will know these lines of black and red dogs that are a "working showline". I've missed these dogs but i will take your word if you give me examples. i would like to study these lines. I know many, many many, workinglines that worked like Gucci, but i don't know the showlines. Because if he and a very few others are the only ones that have this level of accomplishment...then it also  should hold that a non performing dog is a non performing dog no matter what the color and the colors are almost universally  black and red.

Tracking is almost never video'ed too bad. At one of the last regional meets our club competed in one of the "show dogs" made a 99! Well above all the rest of the working dogs.......and a 7 year old show line bitch took top honnors......

Here's a high drive dog from a show line kennel.

Jonn vom Fichtenschlag

Also check out his litter mate Jmm. - Notice the difference in looks.

I had a Jmm grand daughter, black and red - super drive dog, hyper, fearless and safe around kids.

(other grand parents - Uran vom Wildsteiger Land, Elli vom Kirschental, Dixie vom Alexyrvo Hof)

Dawn, I KNOW about Gucci's accomplishments, where are the others to validate your comment. If one dog out of 10 in a litter has good hips I guess you can say that litter produces good hips!! But of course they forget to mention the other 9 dogs in the litter. This kind of reasoning on working abilities of black and red dogs have these breeders just where they are today.....grasping at isolated examples to justify this creation. You can SPIN showlines dogs anyway you want but they generally have weak nerves, don't work well anymore, and don't represent the legacy of the German Shepherd. BTW, I didn't expect you to name the dogs, its always that way with show people....they use an isolated example then when called to cite more to validate this isn't an anomaly, they ignore or change the discussion to some shit like "a good dog is a good dog in any color". Well if you can't prove it with enough examples, it is no more than a figment of your imagination.

The breed has been split for many, many, many years. Each side breeding to improve the breed in their own way, more beautiful showline dog, national and international quality sport dogs. No real thought about breeding the total gsd from either side,to busy trying to produce that exceptional dog for their own venue. No compromise from either side for the good of the breed,do we even care about the total gsd anymore? It will take as many years or more to reverse the effects of breeding two completely opposite lines as is being done today. Will that ever happen? In my opinion,no it will never happen, neither side is willing to sacrifice anything for the good of the total gsd. I think Dawn, mentioned above, color has nothing to with it.It is very possible to produce a black& red dog with the same drives as the sables, blacks , or any other color. It would take a lot of years to do,and some set backs for comformation breeders and working breeders, goals that have to be achieved all over again, maybe to a point where both sides have to settle for a little less extreme. In my mind neither one of these lines fits the bill of the total gsd.I agree with KCzaja the goal for both lines have become to extreme.each side obsessed with their own ideas of what THEY WANT,not whats best for the breed And yes KCzaja THE BEST DOGS DO COME FROM THE MIDDLE. IT"S A SHAME THAT WE ARE TO BLIND TO SEE THAT THIS IS THE TRUE GSD AND THE DOG THAT WE SHOULD BE BREEDING FOR.WE'VE OVER ACHIEVED ON BOTH SIDES, IT'S TIME TO STEP BACK AND CONSIDER WHAT IS REALLY BEST FOR THIS MAGNIFICENT BREED OF DOG THAT WE ALL PROFESS TO LOVE AND CHERISH. Everyone has their preference and opinion. I am not going to argue with Gustav or anyone else, and this is what Gustav is looking for, to argue Show and Working lines. (My dog is better is  than yours syndrome.) I prefer German Showlines.
