I disagree Blitzen a-normal are "normal" which will be mainly OFA Good, a few excellent, and some fair. If all A1 hips are excellent I'll eat something that really tastes bad. A2 (fast-normal) IMO is more likely Fair with some Good and possibly Mild.

I was thinking of the European rating system of A1 and A2, Molly, you are correct. The OFA site doesn't list the SV numerical assignments, only the term "normal". I still think this dog will get an OFA good, not a fair, but who the heck can say for sure. I've been wrong about hips many times before, it sure won't be the first time.
So, to make sure I'm understanding this SV system correctly - the prefix A indicates a normal hip, the numbers indicate the hip conformation compared to other individuals of the same breed, A1 being the best?

I believe A1 = normal, A2 = fast-normal, A3 = NZ. But I'm not 100% sure.

That makes sense I guess. I get confused easily .

Even though I've looked at as many x-ray examples that I could find online (for reference when I had my dog done) I'm still having a hard time deciding on these but I'm going to take a stab and guess they were rated at least good.

This from the OFA website:
OFA |
FCI (European) |
BVA (UK/Australia) |
SV (Germany) |
---|---|---|---|
E |
A-1 |
0-4 (no > 3/hip) |
Normal (A1) |
G |
A-2 |
5-10 (no > 6/hip) |
Normal (A1) |
F |
B-1 |
11-18 |
Normal (A1) |
B |
B-2 |
19-25 |
Fast Normal (A2) |
M |
C |
26-35 |
Noch Zugelassen (A3) |
Mod |
D |

What the SV classifies as "normal" covers the OFA's E ("excellent"), G ("good"), and F ("fair"). Interesting that OFA's B (borderline) is equivalent to the SV's "fast normal" and OFA's M (mild HD)=Noch Zugelassen. If relying solely on the SV's a "normal", without seeing the radiographs, one has no direction for improvement within that class (such as breeding fair to excellent).

Different dog from first x-ray. Again, one year old SV dog.
What do you think the result would be on this one? Would you have submitted it like that? Which do you think is the better hip of the two? Have reduced the file a bit for quicker upload for those on dialup.

This has nothing to do with x-rays, but man, if this guy doesn't scream proven producer and top progeny I don't know what does

In case anyone's BS meter isn't working, I'm being sarcastic. Is this pedigree even real?
