marci: In the original book written by Capt. Max Stephanitz, it clearly states that a wolf was used in the early days of development of the GSD (first English translation of his book), however, in the second and subsequent translations of his book, the reference of a wolf being used, was deleted, and they only refer to the name of the animal (the wolf), and not to it actually being a wolf. Therefore, it reads like it was a dog and not a wolf.

Thank you sir... and so if BARKING is a major difference between DOGS and WOLVES ( I have read that Wolves dont bark..) The Chow-chow has the closest bloodline evolution to the canine ancestral Wolf... Do you think this is true...??? not saying that the GSD is a CHOW-faced HYENA...
have a gud night guys... Marci :)

We took Chaos to our local parade today. He was AWESOME! Sitting less than a foot from the road, and nothing even fazed him. Fire trucks roaring sirens, guns going off from the vets, horns honking, people coming up to him to pet him. My favorite, he shook hands with congress men, LOL. We really got a kick out of that one! And thennnn, lol, the very last fire truck going through, we looked at him and he was howling quietly, ROFL. We all joined in and howled with him. Was totally hillarious. Had to be there! Any way, we are taking him to the fire works tonight to see how he will be with those. I'm sure after today, he will be totally fine. Happy 4th all.

Shepherd Woman, If Chaos begins to get nervous, start walking fast pace and treat him often when he is calm. I did this with one of mine and it worked well. We jogged by all of them going off and after a bit he calmed down. Now I load them up in the SV and open the back and let them watch them. We make it a fun time with special treats.

Thanks. I think he will do great though after today. He really did amaze me today. He had never been around that kind of noise all at once before. Yes, he has been around everything that I can get him around. He goes everywhere with us. But not all of that at once. A huge crowd like that, and then all of the stuff rolled into one. He is a great dog for sure. I lucked out with him!

Chaos did great at the fire works tonight. The first initial BANG kind of scared him, but he settled right down. Cheeto after cheeto helped too, LOL. He finally laid right down and just watched the show. What a guy!
