Actually I do think there is a pattern in french ring.
15 second bite, horn, whistle
stick vs gun
whistle vs guard
basket is (however many seconds) till let go

Not all bites are 15 seconds, the Defense of Handler is 10, the re-attacks after Attack with Revolver are almost instant release, the Attack Out of the Blind is also short, along with the ensuing escapes during transport. The Object guard bites have no time constraint, a bite is a bite. The whistle vs voice is personal choice, when you check in with the judge before you compete you inform him/her what jump heights/lengths you wish, what your retrieve articles are and what you will use for recall, voice or whistle. If the stick is used by the decoy, it's a recall but you may use a verbal command, your choice, if the gun is used or the decoy is empty handed is a guard with recall or approach and heal away. As far as the object guard, once the decoy is engaged by the dog, he freezes for 5 seconds, if at the end of the 5 seconds, the dog has not released on his own, the decoy is allowed to walk the dog away from the basket if he can. If a dog has not released within 5 seconds on any of the bite exercises, the decoy is allowed to begin the fight again so it behooves you as a handler to count in your head, if you dog has not released by a 3 count, you had better give another command.
I thought you said you knew FR?

I was giving the 15 second bite flee or face attack, horn, whistle (or call back, whichever you prefer) as an example of a pattern in ring. I didn't feel the need to spell out all the other patterns, which you so nicely did, and which the dog is very able to figure out.
I think that Schutzhund is much more patterned than ring, but there are still patterns to be found and trained for.

And then you go and do Mondio and what happens ? : )
Even though there are sorta patterns, the decoy makes the difference from a helper in Sch. It is the same in Sch, some helpers bring more than others, but they are not allowed the leeway that they are in FR.
