And limiting youself that way takes out people who would have otherwise been amazing homes. Just something to think about.

I'm sorry,
Your what we used to call a super lifer.
I think you should take your family and go live in the middle of one of our war zones. See what its like to be on the receiving end of our wonderful military complex. Road side bombs can't hold a candle to Napalm.
Just wait until the Chemicals come out, look who's got nuclear weapons today, and you think kids should have to serve two years in the military by law.
Be careful where you say things like that.
You ever see someone you knew die right in front of you, can you imagine what it would be like if it was someone you loved.
Name a war, any war you can name, and then imagine your children trying to grow up in that place and time.
The world needs more pain and destruction.
We are not the same, not even on the same planet.
Your damaged goods lady, and I'm done talking to you.
Moons.

Jaggirl, it may limit me, but on the other hand, I don't need to be crossing 14 states to get to small claims court to repo a dog. I don't breed very many litters, usually one every 3 years (god I hope one of mine is pregnant right now!!!), and I've never advertised a dog. They all go to people I know, except for the poor sods who got stuck with my rescues. I KNOW that other people besides military people move across the country, but all I'm trying to do is improve my odds.
I sure hope your next move is a long term home! Oh well, there's nothing like moving often to keep the closets clean.

jaggirl - you may take your dog ownership seriously, but if you don't have a fenced yard and the rescue wouldn't sell to you ..... ??

Moons, I served as a combat medic side by side with 11B's. They didn't have enough medics and ended up with me, a female. I know exactly what it's like to lose a friend. I know what it feels like to watch them die and not be able to do a damn thing for them. I know what it's like to have a loved one in combat. My husband is over there outside of the wire every day. You can be done talking to me, that's fine. But it is the responsibility of all of us as citizens to serve our country and keep it safe. Would I want something to happen to my kids? Of course not. But they are being raised to have a great respect and love for our country and the freedoms we do have.

I didn't apply to a rescue. That is one of their requirements. Our next home we are living off post and buying and will have a fence. Just because there is no fenced yard doesn't mean the dog doesn't have a great home. There are other areas besides just a backyard to exercise your dog.

Wow has this all gotten out of control as usual. Would I sell to a military member? Your dam right I would and have, but is it for the oh mighty dollar HELL NO!! Just cause there are military personal that don't take care of their dogs doesn't mean others don't. If we screen our clients whether they are Military or civilians like most do anyway than usually the best does come to our pups. But it is the breeder that don't give a shit except for the OH MIGHTY dollar that should get flamed.
I command Jaggirl for going the extra mile for her dog while being deployed as most Civilians don't even give the effort that she has done and most should take a few lessons from her on caring for her dog.
As Kelly originally posted, Yes it would be a shame if the GSD was banned from bases as there were many that gave their lives for our Veterans in past years

I prefer to lurk in the shadows, read most of these posts/rants, and just keep quiet. This one I have to comment on! My husband and I served many years in the military. I grew up always having a dog. My husband always jokes, the only reason I married him was so I could move out of the barracks and get a dog. Not 6 months after getting married we bought our GSD's (2) Our dogs went from WA to AK to CO with us. They always loved car rides...Alaska to Colorado was a duzy. They were our family! We just lost our girl (13 years old) 4 months ago. There are some soldiers that have no business owning a pet, let alone a dog, but there are more than twice as many "civilians" that fit that bill. To those of you who will not sell a dog to someone in the military, if you have a good screening process for prospective buyers, their job of serving this country should only improve their chances of making the grade.
