he looks just like my pup and her sister.
same markings. I do not think my girl is a sable. I've been around too many sables.
my money would be on it being a new mutation, or dominant black gene. the color is strikenly similar to what happens with black timber wolves.
my girl's, sires line come from Holland and I've seen a few from the UK with this coloration poping up in their litters.

All 3 of the dogs you have posted are really nice looking dogs!
Whatever "color" YOUR puppy turns out to be finally........he certainly is a very handsome dog.

I think the possibility of dominant black (K locus) being present in the breed is quite strong. In the previous thread of oso's on this, we had another example of it as the probable explanation for a colour anomaly. Haughmill had a black dog that appeared to reproduce as a dominant black, and there was a line of blacks in his pedigree -
