How I feel is that the Video clip at the start of the thread is misleading........It's portraying pit bulls as a sweet loving bred of softies.......like labs or retrievers.......While SOME of these dogs can be submissive, most are not.

I have heard of and witnessed far more horror stories involving GSD, Mals and Dutchies than Pits and Bulldogs. The outright bullshit stories and fanatasism regarding Pits and their bloodthirsty ways, reeeally pisses me off. They are a hugely overbred/popular dog. My dogs and I have countless times been approached by a loose one on our walks and not once, has the situation turned ugly, resulted in a fight or a bite.
For anyone, especially a dog person, to talk so about any one breed and with such limited experiance with that breed, is a shame. Any breed of dog can bite a childs face. Ask GARD what breed left scars on his face as a child. Does he blame the dog? Hell no, he was a kid in the space of a dog who he didn't know. Just in case you don't get it from him, it was a GSD.
I think sometimes we forget---Dogs are animals---all of them, not just Pitbulls. If it has teeth it has the means to inflict a bite. I personally fear the lap dogs myself.

The pits that bite, are the ones that are abused and neglected by humans, the ones that are provoked, and the ones that are "not-all-there" in the head. Even fighting dogs will rarely, if ever, bite a human. They are SPECIFICALLY bred NOT to. They're bred to have a TON of dog aggression, but no human aggression because they are supposed to be handled by people and be family pets as well. This is kind of a Nature vs. Nurture thing. If a dog is abused, it will probably be people aggressive. If a dog is bred incorrectly, it will probably be people aggressive.
Originally, pit bulls were bred to protect. When they were first brought to the U.S., which was what they were used for. They were left at home with the wife and kids to protect them while the man of the house went out to work in the fields.
The only reason there are so many statistics over pit bulls and so much media over them, is because they are the ones people focus on! You never hear on the news about Chihuahuas or terriers or even the most popular lab attacking because it’s usually not considered as SERIOUS as a pit bull.

Sitasmom: I am truly sorry that your son got bit. It's a horrible thing to go through, but that really was just one dog. Not ALL of them are like that.

I've been bit more times by my parents flat-coated retriever with dog aggression than even scared by our neighbors pitbull, who is your typical healthy, kiss giving, wiggly butt pitbull who gets along just fine with my German Shepherd.

Do you see the basic irrationality of your conclusion that because your son was bitten by a pit, it makes the entire breed dangerous "killers"?

As I said, you people are wasting your time attempting to discuss anything logically or intelligently with Sitasmom.
I have been asked why 'I" seem to attract the ire of the lunative-fringe so much...and I wonder myself. Actually, I don't --I know why, and they give it away in their nasty responses, just as Sitasmom did above. WHERE have I discussed my politics here, or whether I am liberal, moderate, Dem, Rep or or anarchist? Anyone? I haven't . But, many do "know" a few salient facts about me, such as ethnicity and gender. Hmmm.....

Don't bother sputtering in reply Kim/Sitasmom. You outted yourself more than you knew. You do every time.
