Susie, i find myself in an invidious position replying to your post, but without going through the wherewith alls, dont you agree that both Philip Prince, and Steve Foran as well as the rest of the GSDL committee are only doing what every hardworking committee try to do with every show, GET THE BEST ENTRY. North Yorks South Durham did, (  open show ) so did Bolton ( champ show ).  I know you love the breed, or else you would not comment, but please ( for me )  think half full.

Kind Regards as always. Paul.

Have been following this thread with interest and would like to point out that I first became interested in showing GSDs after competing and winning in Longcaot classes more than 25 years ago. At the time I owned a Black & Gold Longcoat named Hankel and a normal coat white named Rolf. They where my pride and joy and my interest then was in competitive obedience. I enjoyed showing these dogs so much that I decided that my next GSD would be a black & gold normal coat from show stock so that I could enter shows and also compete in obedience. This is how I a came to purchase Delcost Status Quo (Quest) sired by Tramella indiana of Delcost out of Longvale Octoola of Delcost.

With show entries falling drastically perhaps by putting on classes for longcoats we might just get a few more people interested in showing.

Photo of me and Hankel winning best logcoat the person 2nd was Linda Kitson (Carozand GSDs) with her longcoat Buck.

I can't beleive what has gone on here,  "why i'm away the Girls will play!"

Hi Sue, first of all the Fun Long Coat Class isn't judged by a comedian, this class will be judged by a Championship show judge, Linda Barclay.  The puppy walk is being judged by an experienced GSD Show/Breeder, Elaine Lowe.   Junior Handling is being judged by Eddie Stephenson who is a judge and has been in the breed for a long time.  The GSD Breed Surveyor is the well respected Terry Hannan.

The judges Paul Rattigan, a Championship Show judge that has judged in different parts of the world and a world known Breeder.    Shirley Hutchinson, an up and coming quality judge from another Top Kennel.

The German Shepherd Dog League does take everything seriously.

The show is in the memory of the late Tony Howson, and we on the League wanted this Show to be Special and Spectacular.

To our Show Manager Mr Steve Foran, I for one applaud you for your ideas, and I really do hope everyone attends and has a fantastic time.

Regards

Philip Prince

I've had a re-read of this thread and I think Sue's issue was with the wording... "fun".  If the dogs are being judged to the standard, (aside from the coat) it's not so much "fun" as say, "Best Six Legs" or "Waggiest Tail" etc... I think that's the misunderstanding here!  Let's not fall out... life's too short!

Bill, JD... ?  Dear God, I'm a Scot!  Proper whisky please Bill... !!!  Bring your cheque book!

Linda B, didn't competetive Ob drive you mad?  It did me... all those bloody B&Ws velcro'd to their owners legs, that's one of the reasons I got into WTs and the dogs prefered it too!

I very very rarely post on this board for fear that it will be thrown back at me, but felt that I should come on this time.

I have been out of showing for a few years and had decided to try one or two shows this year but when I read some of the comments on this forum about the shows, people and dogs I wonder if its worth coming back into Im really not sure it is, when I went to the British Sieger show last year I felt totally out of it I wasnt part of any ones group and as I was on my own I found it rather lonely so I went home after a couple of hours, have we ever thought that all this back stabbing, acusing etc is why some entries are down, why people are leaving our breed.

I remember the days when you could go to an open dog show with large entres and have a good time, you sat and talked to people and they had time to talk to you, you shared picnics and drinks and made a day of it, now I find it hard to even find many open shows and as I dont have a handler what chance have I got and thats not fair to my dog.

We should surely support the efforts of clubs that are trying in these hard times to get entries in for what ever cause, why cant we go back to dog shows being fun, is it always about that red rosette or trophy.
