 I will say it again:

In short, there is NOTHING in the breed I cannot get somewhere else, without compromising any principles or swallowing hard. Period. Were this a rare breed, there might be a dilemma. The German Shepherd is NOT a rare breed, so for me there is no dilemma: I don't have to deal with garbage to get quality dogs. Someone with actual ethics has the same bloodlines, hell, often from the same dogs. Keeping schmucks in the breed does nothing for the breed-- it simply lines the pockets of the schmucks.

There are some breeders on the face of this earth that I wouldn't do business with, not even if they offered the Bundessieger to me on a silver platter. When we make a purchase from a breeder or importer we are "voting with our wallet" and condoning their business practices. As such, the buyer has a responsibility to support the breeders/importers with good business ethics. Like Nia said, this is NOT a rare breed. There are MANY good breeders, too many for the need to patronize the "bad apples" with nefarious business practices. The day that I can't buy a puppy from an ethical breeder to get a "good" GSD... is the day that I switch breeds! -Yvette

What is all the "shouting" about in Mystere's internet penmanship?

There is no shouting, Gayle. This thread is intended to help individuals involved in breeding. NOT for your little petty potshots. As a long time show breeder, one might actually think that you "might" have something constructive and worth-while to contibute to the thread, rather than this petty behavior. What the hell is in the water in Pennsylvania that some of you seem categorically unable to refrain from hijacking threads for your petty tantrums and trashy behavior? Grow up.

I would say watch out for someone who wants to buy a dog for some "dream" activity when they have never been involved in that activity.

A lot of people want dogs for SAR, then get the dog, then find out that it is more mud and briars and snakes than this romantic vision of saving the day - now they have this super high drive dog that may not get the activity and stimulation it needs.  I am sure same is true for people wanting dogs for agility or dogsport.

I'm confused about the following, from the website from someone in 'Bama:

Doesn't "full registration" mean it includes breeding rights?

"
  • All of our dogs are AKC registered.  It is our choice to limit breeding by withholding papers or breeding rights most of the time.  Producingpuppies is a serious responsibility.
  •

  • All our puppies come with full AKC registration and are priced at $500.00 to $900.00"

BS at its finest. I am guessing that they just charge more for full registration, nothing to do with responsibility.

They don't mention limited registration, so it "sounds" to me that the they simply don't know what they are talking about.   Or,that the pups are registered, but the buyer simply is not going to be given any paperwork.
