Okay, now does anybody else see the irony of this post?

Videx:  "I trust many SV Judges and Officials, as well as WUSV Member Clubs around the World, will realise the Kennel Club here in the UK have CHANGED the GSD Breed Standard for the UK, without any discussion with the GSD Clubs, The GSD Breed Council,, and the TWO WUSV Member Clubs, BAGSD & The GSD League.

The two WUSV Member Clubs, who should support the SV Breed Standard have been SILENT on these changes. They need to issue a public statement condemning these unilateral changes to our GSD Breed Standard

It is crucial that the SV takes urgent steps to assert its authority and the authority of the WUSV regarding this serious matter.

I urge ALL SV members, around the World, to write and/or email the SV requesting they give this matter their urgent attention"

Mystere, were you joking about the braces? liz

Tina,

YES!!  I do see the irony!!

Liz:  NOPE!  Not joking at all.  The show folks (AKC and SV-style) apparently get braces on their most promising prospects with bad bites on a regular basis.     They can take the time to do so.   The working folks cannot afford the downtime to NOT work the puppy, so a very promising  working line puppy with a bad bite just has to go to a pet home, because no one can afford to just forego that critical building and imprinting time.   My understanding is that it is most often the AKC folks, as they are breeding too many dogs with level bites.  I was at one specialty  show where the judge stopped the show to comment on the fact that every single dog he'd examined that day had a level bite.  One of the breeders proceeded to tell a potential puppy-buyer that that was a good thing.  I decided to go ahead and be rude and dispute it.  I was the one with a copy of the breed standard handy, too.     btw--That breeder has since "converted" a lot of her stock to German lines.

That is outrageous!  You get dummy testicles in America too, don't you?

As a matter of fact, missbeeb, some of the show folks DO get ,er um, "pouches" done for their males.  The vets who do it, so I am told, ask that they agree NOT to show or breed the dog, with a <wink> <wink> .

Now, what the hell do they think people pay good money to have balls fixed on their dogs for?     I first learned this from one of the vets!!  She even told me the name of the dog.  When I told her that the dog was being actively campaigned in the AKC show ring, and gave the full name of the dog and owner, she didn't even have the grace to blush.  She was actually mad that she'd sort of been caught out.  I told her that if she seriously thought that they were going to do anything BUT show the dog, she'd have had the agreement in writing and enforced it.   She doesn't like me anymore.  <sigh>

I think msytere likes to exaggerate a bit.The brace thing is alittle over the top.I have seen plenty of show dogs with a good bite and plenty of working lines with an over bite.It pretty much equals out.

Well... you learn something new every day!  Why would you want a dummy ball for your dog... and how dumb are some Vets?

Is it true about the dental work... caps / crowns etc?

Oh! my god this is unbelievable, why would anyone want to do this? liz

Nia, the false testicle is called a Neuticle.

I have heard that some show breeders have the left testicle removed in order to put in a Neuticle. They do this because the Neuticle is .73 grams heaver than a real testicle. It is believed that this helps the dog to maintain a better gait while running in a left circle.
