Too long in body, not deep enough in chest, lazy ear, odd tailset, nice feet, fairly okay rear, coat is either dirty or very very short out of condition,  feet are nice and tight. I tend toward likeing doggy bitches, so her head doesn't bother me that much... but overall I wouldn't see her getting even a fair rateing.  As many others have said, unless you're only looking @ working ability and she's a star there I wouldn't see her as a brood prospect. I'd be surprised if she passed the requirements in Germany for breeding.

Hey folks,
Other than this thread, I sure hope each of you are having a nice day. We sure are a passionate group, aren't we. LOL Perhaps it's due, in part, to a commitment to our own belief systems, the breed as we individually see it, our prejudices, perceptions and experiences. While the internet is certainly a useful tool ( I'm hooked... LOL), it can, at times, be a very poor medium for communication.   I don't really have a dog in this fight, but I do know some things that might be relevant and helpful.   I had purchased my pup, and shortly thereafter I took him all over my county to socialize him. I took him to any place and any group of folks I could find. I took him to public functions, a dog park ( yes, I now know not to do that again).  While I thought he was a very homely puppy, he was an immediate hit. Folks treated him like a Rock Star. I have been happily married for over 36 years, but if I were single, the first thing I would get is a GSD puppy, they are absolute girl magnets. ;>)   Anyway, on no less than four occasions, folks would tell me about the wonderful GSD that they owned and ask me if I bought him from the same local breeder as they had. Up until this, I didn't know that there was a local breeder in my county. They talked about their dogs, I mean, they bragged about their dogs, and their breeder. One even had a photo dog history in her purse and showed if off as one might of their children or grandchildren. Two ladies, not GSD folks, told me about how they had taken their dogs to a local trainer and how she had done a magnificent job of helping them train away the problems, allowing them to keep dogs they had each considered getting rid of.   Continued to page 2

Well, I thought it might be a good idea to meet this local breeder and her dogs, so I tracked her down, actually I made a phone call and got her to invite my wife and I over. First, I have to tell you, I might be new to this breed, but all of her dogs were stunningly beautiful. I got to see their temperaments, they checked us out and then became friendly, polite, but friendly. I played fetch with two of them. The breeder showed us around her place. She has a cat ( I don't care for cats) and she has horses. Although she is a small breeder, electing for limited litters, she has a nice and well cared for kennel.   This gal was very helpful and giving of her time to this rookie.... We spent nearly 2 hours there, even though she would have no expectation of making a dime off of me.   Now, it would be nice if this thread would work it's way out of the "red zone", as if you had met this breeder in person, I truly believe you would like her.    Yes, this breeder/trainer that I am talking about is Sundance. Now I didn't know her from Adam before I became involved with this breed and I have only met her once in person, but I truly believe that anyone involved in this breed would walk away from her with a good impression of both her and her beautiful and well mannered dogs.
I may not get any "happy points" for this post, but in fairness, I thought some of you folks might like to know a bit more about Sundance.   Have a great day everyone.... I think I am going back out and play with the brat. We started to play with an old sleeve I have and he loves the game.   Gator

Red Sable

Well, I am not into show dogs because IMHO, they are bred under the pretence of being bred for correct conformation, but in many cases have poorer conformation thanmost workinglines.  That being said, a good workingline breeder would NOT breed a dog that has poor conformation no matter HOW good it works!!
Why would anyone breed a dog that doesn't have good conformation? (correct ears, eyes, angulation, etc.)  We are supposed to be breeding for the betterment of the breed and there are ALOT better specimans out there than that bitch.

Great post Molly, glad to see a great  breeder. :)

Well... there's correct conformation; that... along with all the workability / correct temperament etc is what we're all after, hopefully.
