Thanks for lots of information and lots of laughs. To clearify, it does NOT seem to be related to sexual excitement and he has only rarely humped his stuffed "bed". I am thinking perhaps the stress at 7mo's and "growing out of it" are maybe related. It's nice to know that he's not fatally flawed on the one hand while a bit dissapointing that their isn't an easy "cure". He gets tons of exercize [runs with the wife chases a ball and lives in the country] so I don't think that's an issue. Anyway thanks again for the info. I'll let you know if he grounds the red rocket or if he becomes a canine pervert. RJ

To continue in the same ahem... vein has anybody seen a dog have what can best be described as a 'phantom lock'?
A couple of times when Nelson was in his adolesent pomp he would wake up from a nap and wouldn't just have a bit of 'lipstick' showing but be as large as he could be. His back would be arched and he would have trouble walking and 'calming' himself down.
After the initial hilarity on our part it did appear to be painful/distressing and we where at a loss on what to do, chuck a bucket of water over him perhaps? After taking him outside he would totter about & slowly recover.
All comments, serious or not!, most welcome.

you might find this helpful http://www.synalia.com/articles/trainPMemotion.html it's an article entitled:
"Cover's Formula for Perception Modification and Cycles: A Tool for Empowering Animals to Manage Their Emotions"
basically whether it's "penis crowning" or a full erection, that is not during mating, the issue is the dog is either releasing stress from too much stimulus or overexcited. by teaching the dog to relax himself gives him more control over his perceptions and reactions to various activities (including waking from a dream) it's a great skill, which has a very wide range of applications. it is the key to self control so is a foundation skill. once a dog learns self control there really is no limit to what he can be taught. having your dog able to relax /"get easy" on command is a real asset to teamwork and cooperation.

I read through this quick haha. Not making fun of you at all Trust me.Just explain to your kids if they are old enough and most kids are about the "Birds and the bees" not in those words.Oh hell I lost my train of thought. Its not an exercise problem nor does he need one of those modification programs. He is simply a male dog neutered or not.Nothing is gross about the peeking of the pink or full rocket.I do have a problem when Boss is loving every minute he spends with me and Knats get on his penis. He is not bothered so why should I.Little Man my gelding likes to air his out.Talk about a rocket. So what if he slaps his belly.haha.I take that opportune moment to reach into his sheath and clean out the wax build up...Yep I am a freak..I smell the wax and it is the same smell of wax that I remove between the tits of my two mares...If I had a dog that would air hump I surely wouldnt hide it from the public seeing it....haha. Guru,There are no stupid questions.Candace

and maybe if we taught our teenage boys a bit of self control there wouldn't be so many 'titty bars' personally i'm tired of the whole "boys will be boys" bs; perhaps a little social evolution is in order for both our dogs and our sons?

justcurious~how do I get a Zen Puppy? I don't even know how to relax myself. Just ask anyone who has ever "tried" to rub my shoulders.

SATS has a great method -i've posted the link before but here it is again: www.synalia.com - trainers using this method have had great success with rescued pit bulls; and that's saying a lot:) and i know a jack russell breeder that is a cert SATS trainer that swears by it - another wild breed:)) clearly you have to teach yourself the skill first than your dogs but the same general concept will apply to humans as well and any other animals that strufggles with self control or strong emotions.

Justcurious,
Going to titty bar's are all about self control...LOL
And some male's no matter what species just have a stronger sex drive than other's. Therapy for that would just be wrong.
4Pack,
LOL.... rubbing shoulder's is no way to relax a woman.......!
I'll spare everyone the detail's...hehehehe
chekodah,
I can't really offer any great advice, I guess if he was mine I would just put him up when he get's excited. I've seen people punish a dog for this and it didn't change anything. Checking out justcurious's link is worth a look I guess.

brent -
i suppose you are right self control is mandatory in places like that or you'll end up in big trouble:)) me i think if a guy wants sex he should be able to find it without resorting to the objectification of women - be creative, tax yourself a bit, use your brain ... and most women will be intrigued:) so if you calm the impulse and use the head on your shoulders you'll end up getting far more than you ever dreamed of:)
